Lens protection covers for the iPhone 17 range hint at the array of colors that will arrive at launch, including a surprising orange Pro option.

As the September launch of Apple's new iPhones gets closer, the rumors about Apple's color selection start to intensify. Now, a leaker has offered images of a component that provides precious clues of what to expect from the new colorways.

The image shared by Sonny Dickson via X on Monday includes a selection of camera lens protector. They are covers designed to go around the camera lens on the back of the iPhone.

Three sets of protectors are shown, with Dickson saying each set will match a color variant of the iPhone.

For the iPhone 17, the colors are identified as:

  • Black

  • Grey

  • Silver

  • Light Blue

  • Light Green

  • Light Purple

For the iPhone 17 Air, there are four options:

  • Black

  • Silver

  • Blue Grey

  • Light Gold

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max range have a total of five colors:

  • Black

  • Grey

  • Silver

  • Dark Blue

  • Orange

The last one is an unusual choice, with Dickson proposing that the Orange could be used with a new shade of "Dark Gold" or "Copper."

Sonny Dickson has a relatively favorable track record among leakers, including one time leaking mockups of the iPhone 16 range that included the correct screen sizes.

Parade of colors

Leaks about colorways aren't as major as other features and spec points, but they do crop up from time to time.

In July, sketchy leaker Majin Bu said that there would be four colors of iPhone 17 Air:

  • Black

  • Light Blue

  • Light Gold

  • Silver

However, that leaker has also doubled down on the light blue claims while also insisting that it wouldn't be used on the Pro models.

Bu also insisted in June that there would be Green and Purple models as potential shades.

The iPhone 17 Air's Sky Blue rumors have also been bolstered by Fixed Focus Digital, who backed up the claim in July.

This is also not the only leak where iPhone colors were revealed by the existence of lens protectors. On July 11, leaker yeux1122 posted two images of lens protectors for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air.

In that instance, the iPhone 17 would be available in:

  • Black

  • Blue

  • Silver

  • Green

  • Purple

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Air would be available in:

  • Black

  • Light Blue

  • Light Gold

  • Silver
Rumor Score:

Likely

Well well well. Maybe someone at Apple is reading my comments here on this site… Hopefully this is a ‘good’ orange and not the peach abomination they called orange on the current AirPads Max.

Oof, you are so right about the AirPods Max! FUGLY! The real color orange should sue Apple for defamation and would easily win in court.

I just can't get my hopes up again for Apple to finally take a bold swing at color for the iPhone Pro. Ain't gonna happen. The new snooze this year will be Sky Blue, which happens to be a fabulous blue for anyone who hates the color blue.

Haha. From the little I can see in the article above, the dark blue looks like a cobalt blue, which could be interesting choice if the orange doesn’t end up being a legitimate option or ends up being too burnt sienna or burnt orange/copper.

As much as i am wanting to upgrade my 14 Pro, i will for sure wait to see the colours in real life. Even if that means my delivery will be later. Just remember how ugly the purple version of 14 Pro was in real life. And it looked quite good during presentations and on the web…
