Be kind of silly to announce RenderManc Mac OS X without a worthy Rendermac®....

No Renderman for OS X. They use Maya already for modeling and some animation.

The session was an excellent summary of Pixar's movie development process, followed by a demo of a little storyboard pitcher app the speaker wrote in Cocoa in a week.

He also mentioned that Pixar is moving towards OS X for artwork in the future.

Perhaps that's a hint that the rackmount server will be more than just a fileserver. I'm hoping the rackmount will be a renderfarm solution. Each unit can be linked with other unit over a the Firewire2 interface.

one thing is artwork (photoshop, illustrator, etc) and another is rendereing. I believe they just invested a pretty big amount of money on a new Sun based solution. Not 100% sure on who it was that they got though.

[quote]posted on MacCentral about Cocoa storyboard pitcher:

"The first evening, I basically made it work," said Johnson. Within a week, it was complete enough to begin using on a new animated film project.

"I could not have done this in Linux, not to mention Windows. This is the kind of thing that gets us excited," Johnson said.

"That and those hilariously enhanced 3d women that the Maya-heads create every once in a while" Johnson added.

Hmm. I bet you could have rendered Geri's Game in real time on a dual 1 GHz G4.
