Ti Fighter: That is an interesting set of concept products - "Dashboard for Digital Home." The design isn't quite there and it looks way too complicated, but it has an impressive set of functions. I don't see how it could drive all of that stuff and have speakers without a heavy battery. Then again a coffee table device is never far from an outlet. I would rather see a bigger screen and a much smaller bezel and no speakers.

IMHO this kind of product sounds much better in theory than it works out in practice. The price of these things is usually very high and starts to compete with laptops. I would much, much rather have a 12" PowerBook with a real keyboard, instead of a onscreen keyboard or handwriting recognition. Besides, the screen is really too small to run OS X on it. Battery life will suck and it will have a very slow processor (or the size will have to increase for a larger battery pack & better heat control).

    Yuck

Ah, "the tablet thread wars" Good Times, good times.

Tablets are inching closer to feasibility, but usefull device that solve the too big/too small dilemma are a ways off yet. When they come, they will need to be good and cheap, and not really a replacement for a laptop, more like an eBook that makes connectivity and content viewing easy, along with note taking/organizing, a bigger PDA basically, but one with seamless interoperability.

    Not yet...

They had a press release a year or so ago but I haven't heard anything since then. Supposedly they are ex-apple designers or something along those lines. I don't know if this is prototype/design stage stuff or if they have a working model.

On a side note, I've been complaining (to myself) that the ipod should work for digital photo storage as well as mp3's then I saw this:

Not as nice or elegant as something Apple would do but it's got some nice extra features. I wonder how much it is going to cost.

Apple already makes a tablet. You can find it for $999 here:

Notice that Apple's tablet has an extraordinarily advanced input device called a "keyboard". When the tablet is turned off, this input device can fold over the display, making the tablet more compact and easy to carry, and most importantly, protecting the LCD display when not in use!

True, true. How much more expensive would the $999 iBook be with a touch screen??
