Thanks to those who don't consider NDAs sacrosanct, the <a href="http://www.matroxusers.com/"; target="_blank">Matrox Users Discussion Centre</a> has reported on the new Matrox Parhelia. :eek:



Highlights include built-in 10-bit DVD and HDTV decoding and the ability to run Quake 3 in a triple-headed 4800x1200 resolution config at over 100 fps.



No word about mac availability and not sure about price (it's a long, confusing article), but enjoy.

    Wasn't there a artical over at The Register about Matrox and the G5? And where did May 14 come from?

    May 14th is the day that the NDAs on the chip expire and Matrox will announce it.

    *IF* this card comes out for OSX, it will be interesting to see how Matrox intends to sell it. If the mac version is the same as the PC version, and all you have to do is download the drivers, then this card will completely destroy the 3rd party graphics card market on the Mac. I know I'd buy the 225$ version in a heartbeat.



    Matrox seems to want to regain the crown they lost many years ago, and playing it clever, like this, would be the best way to *own* the mac market.

    just saw this <a href="http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/articles.hwz?cid=3&aid=425&page=1"; target="_blank">link</a> abou the new Matrox card. Some of the specs listed on here seem outrageously good. It would certainly be nice to see this running on a Mac in the near future ...



    Of particular interest is the 16xFAA, and the glyph rendering for text being taken over by the GPU. All only on Win32/Linux so far, but I'dd like to see a dual next-gen G4 with DDR RAM and AGPx8 for this puppy :cool:

    There's a big difference between shipping and announced and a bigger difference between rumored and announced. Whatever they have, by the time they ship it (or slightly after) nVidia and ATI will have an answer. As it is now, two cards leap-frog each other for supremacy. There isn't much to seperate a top nVidia card from a top ATI. You can choose ultimate performance, or more features an better price, but both will run the same software with little visual difference. There's room for a third dog in this race, but no one will get ahead and stay there for long. Apple can get by with two major card suppliers, a third is nice but not needed.

    No mention of pricing or availability that I could find. I think Matrox is just announcing now to get the jump on nVidia, ATI and 3DLabs who will all have comparable parts this year. These impressive specs aren't going to be able to set Matrox apart (except, perhaps, for the triple head capability and the text glyph rendering).
