how much space do you need is the key. There both fast drives so ask yourself how much cash you have to spare and how much space do you need.

What type of computer are you putting it in? Unless the comp supports ATA-6, you'll only be able to read drives up to 137 GB.

im putting them into a firewire enclosure... so i can address all 200 gigs if i want...

the hd will be for all different types of things.... DV, mp3, games... you name it... probably lots of video from eyeTV... i think i will need all the space i can get... ive always been short on room, it would be nice to not have to worry about it anymore...

but the thing is, by the time i fill up 120 gigs, 200 hds should be common right?....

Why not spend the $200 on two IBM 120 GB drives instead of one Maxtor drive? That way you get more space, and there's the possibility of RAID.

^^ Man, i'm so tired of hearing 'IBM's are bad.. they always die, blah blah'.

IBM had a bad batch of drives (the 60 and 75GXP models) a few years ago, which did have serious problems. The current models are several generations apart from these problem drives, and work extremely well. In fact, IBM drive quality is usually a bit better than Maxtor or Western Digital, IMO. Ragging on IBM drives now is like ragging on the 12" Powerbook because of the problems with the 5300c back in 1997.

Paul - using two 120GB drives in a Firewire enclosure is actually a great idea, if you don't need to carry the enclosure around with you. I recently built two drive RAID/JBOD setup with two IBM/Hitachi 120GXP drives (bought slightly used for $80 each) in this enclosure: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=MAP-302F-01

It's a killer price ($49.95), and a very nice enclosure, using an Oxford 911 chip. The large fan actually runs quieter than the small fans in most single drive enclosures.
