yes, what would be the perfect name for the [oh well, confirmed ...er... existence of] new 970 based machines?

(a) drop entire gx scheme but leave "power mac" as a wellknown brand

(b) just g5 (business as usual)

(c) drop entire gx scheme and "power mac" AND adopt funky names from different sources (e.g. astrophysic)

go ahead, boys and girls ... er ... did I ever asked, where the girls are? OK OT;-)

best

I think dropping the 'G' convention and going with the IBM chip number might be the way to go.

    Powermac 970

    Powerbook 970

    iMac 750FX

    eMac 750FX

    iBook 750FX

Let the performance of these new chips speak for themselves and without the baggage/context of G3/4 or 5.

Clean slate. Remove the negative connotations associated with the mhz drought (G4.)

A new chip. A new OS. A new level of performance. I think that new plateau needs some special treatment. The media love that kind of 'relaunch'.

I think it would be good PR.

That's my vote. Something like "dumbass astronomer"

    ..wait, that was already taken

    Change is a good thing!?
