Gamma Screwed - Help!

Posted:
in macOS edited January 2014
Somehow, my gamma settings got totally pooched, and there is seemingly no way to return them to the out-of-box settings (even if I open up Display Calibrator and go through everything with the default, it's not the same). Occasionally, though, when I restart, the settings will revert. Until, of course, I need to restart again. The last time this happened, I created a new ColorSync profile called OUTOFBOX, and now it has disappeared with the last restart.

It's really annoying me that I can't see the difference in stripe colors in a list, like in iTunes and iChat. I can make them more visible, but everything becomes super-dark and nasty.

What in God's name is going on?

    Maybe this would help.

Or possibly you could try the ColorSync Utility to verify/repair your profiles.

    Did you check the cables?

He's using a PowerBook; so, I don't think cables are an issue.
