New towers to echo look of servers?

Do the stainless steel enclosed servers introduced today, point to a possible similar look for future PowerMac towers?

Seems plausible, lowend hardware is all white and now two out of 3 pro units are polished metal. The current tower case is pretty spiffy all in all but something new would be nice.

Definitely...the front face of the XServe looks bad ass...seems like it should be using testosterone for something....at least I hope they look similar.

Jag-Wire demos gave us lots of Quicktime like apps that have the same brushed metal appearence.

I hope so. Towers looking like that would look great.

Changing the tower case implies more than just another "speed bump".

well... to state the obvious... if they decided to go with this new "unfinished" metal finish for future PowerMac boxes... they would also be changing the form-factor... which is also due for an update.

The new enclosure would be the deciding factor if the brushed-metal would work or not... obviously the brushed-metal would NOT work on the current enclosure.

As much as I love the curvacious lines of the current PMG4... it's also time for something new.

I want the G5. Apple can wrap it in an ugly beige box for all I care. The leisurely pace of Motorola's G4 development is getting really old.

thank you. it looks great. I love the firewire plug recess.

I'm really hoping the PowerMac takes on many of the xserve's traits

It seems that the high end apple products are receiving the metal look. But if you look at all the other recent products from apple (emac, imac, cube, xserve) they all seem to be as small as possible as well. Could we see a size reduction in the new pm cases? Plus on the apple site it says that the xserve has hot swapable drives, does that mean that we will also see these in the pm line of products?

    Yes. No.

The new servers are cool looking. But, I've been waiting so long for a really big processor improvement for the powermacs that I would buy a G5 if it was put in a case resembling a small toilet.

A toilet looking case? Not a bad idea

A Powermac case with a brushed metal exterior would be so totally bad-ass! Problem I see with it is cost...wouldn't it be excessive compared to the current paradigm of sheetmetal covered with plastic? Seems like it.

I don't see the size of Powermacs changing much at all, because most of the space in the current tower is there for expandability, and if Apple listens to feedback from current Powermac owners, then they will add at least one empty drive bay, so the tower may even be taller.

Certainly there will be some reduction in size due to more efficient packaging of components, but Powermacs will still be real towers, hopefully "more real" with lots of extra full sized external bays.

    Sorry about that last post.

    What I meant to say...

It's time that apple revolutionize the tower. Make the firewire more accessable. Change the overall design - either the brushed metal or the same ipod/imac white, or something else. Change the shape while still keeping expandability. The design of the imac makes sense. They need to design the PowerMacs with the same intelligence.

Oh and by the way they should stuff that new G5 in there somehow also.
