The Archos won't fit in my pocket. It's effectively useless for my needs. I don't know why people even compare the Archos and the iPod because they are in two different categories. The Archos is a portable MP3 player. The iPod is a _wearable_ MP3 player.
1. In your chart, I would mark USB 2.0 in red and Firewire in Blue. I have FW on all my computers (and several in the office). On the other hand, I have yet to even see one computer with USB 2.0 though there might be more in the future. USB 2.0 still sounds like vaporware.
2. Regarding the Cinema Display, I bought (22 inch version) one over a CRT. In fact, I didn't even consider a CRT. They are far too heavy and take up too much space, IMO. The Sony you reference weighs over 92 pounds! It would take two or three people to get it out of the box and install it. And it is over 20 inches deep. My whole desk is only about 25 inches deep. According to your link the Sony draws 170 watts, the CD less than half that.
Besides this, I find that LCD displays are easier on the eyes, turn on instantly, use much less power (generating less heat) and maintain their display characteristics better (no need for a focus control).
It is definitely true that for demanding color work a CRT produces a wider range of calibrated color. Also, CRTs make a nice image if you switch to lower resolutions.
Those are good points I think. But again I ask you, when are you ever going to move it? At the moment I have a 21" Sony monitor and it does way a ton, believe me, but it just sits on my desk. So I don't understand my friends argument about weight, because he isn't holding it up when hes looking at it, the desk does. Realistically I only move my monitor twice a year so for $1,500 bucks I'll deal. Just my 2 cents.

Like me, you failed to research what you said... While the Nomad Jukebox 3 is heavier and larger than the Apple iPod, the former has significantly more battery life with its dual battery bays. Total playback time may exceed 22hours!

If Apple gets its act together, the iPod may become a full-fledged computer someday.

I guess the next stage of evolution for the iPod will be for actual PDA status.

You'd have to do most of the work on your computer - just like it is with the current iPod. Rip and arrange on the Mac, load via FW onto the iPod. You'd have to type things up on the Mac, then load them.
Super-iPod! Remember that hardware hack that allowed an iPod to become a Universal IR remote! That was cool - Apple told the fellow who made it to take it off the Web - I bet it's still loating around somewhere. I'll get that.
What!? How does this IR remote thing work? don't you need hardware? I think Griffen technology was working on this.
Anyway, new iPod NEEDS:
-Windows compatibility. Not iTunes, but something. Jam with Mac ads and Apple propaganda!
-Recording (option via FireWire and/or built-in mic. Why the hell wasn't this there in the first place? I'm going to college, many other prospective students are too!)
-Wireless headphones (Bluetooth or something, and those earbuds are the worst $400 speakers I've seen! )
-more PDA functionality. Color? Better input? More apps/better OS? Turn it into a phone? All I know is, Apple needs a PDA.
A clock, sort by genre, ability to record, remote, and 20gigs at less then $600 would get me to upgrade from the original. Well to be honest, i'll take any 2 of those, but all would be sweet...
Why is is that everyone wants colour on the iPod? What is the point? Do you really need to see the filenames in colour? Colour screens are much more expensive, and probably use more power. (not sure about that one). Some more basic PDA-like functionality would be nice tho... The ability to add text notes would be cool. I think more games would be a good selling gimmick. Or maybe they could just open it up for developers to write their own games, so that you could just download them, and put them in a "games" folder on the iPod's disk. But that all of this is minor. I don't think the iPod will ever be a fully functional PDA. Sound recording is a must, IMHO. USB and Windows Support would be smart, and the ability to retreive images from a digital camera would be sweet. I'd buy one if it had just that function added.
