Apple (Pro) Mouse

Apple's newest mice are just called Apple Mouse (with new eMac,?).

What are the options of a new Apple Pro Mouse?

I'm really looking forward buying a new mouse, after my 'old' fell on the ground (but most of the times it still works).

wireless (bluetooth or whatever just make it wireless)

    scroll thing

2 buttons at least (one thumb/side button would be nice)

    low profile

    uber-riffic good looks.

New mouse will continue to be corded and have 1 button.

    Bank on it.

Yeah, it's part of Apple's image. I would love to see an apple designed mouse with multiple buttons, I'm sure they could do something neat, but it doesn't seem likely.

I would think that if Apple is trying to push the whole wireless abilities, then a wireless mouse makes much more sense.

However, I agree that it will be one-button.

Methinks if they went for a wireless mouse they would also want a wireless keyboard.

And since they already intro'd a slightly new keyboard, I don't think that it will happen.

of course, I have no evidance either way.

i dont want anything i have to buy batteries for... if they do make a bluetooth mouse i want it to have a nice rechargable cradle too. Since i don't see any real purpose for having a wireless keyboard it'd be kinda cool if they figured out a way to intergated the charger with the keyboard. Could you possible charge a tiny little mouse battery via usb?

But yeah... i'd really really like to see Apple get with the program and come out with a multi-button mouse with some kind of scroll device. One button mice are just worthless.

The eMac?s ?Apple Mouse? doesn't have the click resistance adjustment wheel of the ?Apple Pro Mouse?.

Thus, I don't think its non-pro name is an indication of imminent pro mouse updatage.

It has been brought up frequently that wireless peripherals will have no use in an education setting. They'd be gone fast.

That said, I want a Bluetooth mouse for my PowerBook 12"! And not the M$ one! Logitech is really lagging on this end I'm disappointed in them.

Could be dependent on where the computer was packaged. Apple used to ship two different kind of mice. One had a nice heavy gray mouse ball, the other had a very sucky, light black mouse ball. They where manufactured in two different factories.

yeah....the only thing about a wireless mouse/keyboard would be the batteries. And Apple is not known for wasting things like batteries, so it would probably come with a charger.

That is, unless, they develop some new method for wireless charging

Apple should make a wireless Pro Mouse with 4 buttons but only sell the regular pro mouse one button with their comps. Then everyone would go out and buy the extra $100 mouse and apple would make a lot of money. Thats what I would do if i were steve.

apple wont sell multibutton or scroll mice, there are too many companies that rely on selling mac peripherals like that (as well as other products), apple would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that... wireless maybe...

uh, i don't think Apple has EVER had a problem killing of peripheral and other third-party hardware manufacturers...

I agree that a wireless mouse would be good. BUT, it would suck for schools (as previously stated). Here in Australia, practically no one uses the online Apple store. Just too expensive. I used to work at an Apple retailer here and we had schools and education departments as clients so you would need to offer the corded mouse at a retailer level as well. Seems like a whole heap of bother!!!

A wireless mouse needs charging. A firewire/USB cradle (iPod dock sort of thing?) would be OK, but then you lose the use of that port for other peripherals. Also, what if it ran out of power while you were working, what then? Should it have the ability to be USB corded as well as wireless? What about a solar powered mouse?? Would that "get rid" of the power issues? Would an optical mouse draw too much power for solar? I used to have a solar powered calculator and it seemed to work fine under incandescent lighting so it wouldn't necessarily HAVE to be sunlight (I imagine a solar powered calculator draws WAY less power than an optical mouse). Would work in quite nicely with Steve's vegetarian type mantra. It would need to store power because your hand would cover the (obvious) panel positions and because some people still like to work in the dark. It's obvious that they have experimented with light sensor technology, just look at the 17" powerBook with the ambient light sensors. Not saying it's a "good" idea, just an idea.

My last point. As much as it pains me to say it (I'm a BIG fan of bluetooth/wireless in general), I don't think they can make a bluetooth muse at this stage. I thought that bluetooth was a direct link type of deal. What I mean is, and correct me if I'm wrong, I can connect my T68i phone to my ibook via bluetooth, but while they are connected, I cannot connect my bluetooth hands free earpiece to my phone. So, a single bluetooth device can only speak to one other bluetooth device at any one time? This would SUCK when using iSync to sync with my phone over bluetooth coz the mouse would drop out.

On a passing note. I don't think they will make a multi button mouse with scroll. I agree that a multi button, scroll mouse is good (for me) but I think apple has instilled it into everyone that "we do the one button thang and if you don't like it, go buy a second mouse". I mean, OSX picked up both my multi+scroll mouses without needing new software (MS Intellimouse and Belkin Nostromo) so it's not like they don't support them. I would understand if they released the option of a specialised mouse for FCP (or Photoshop or something). Like, 5 button, 2 scroll that did various repetitive tasks (Like, switch betwen "this tool" and the "last tool", or whatever).

They are working on wireless power. Really!

However I would like to see a Apple PRO BT mouse with two buttons and scroll that uses the kinetic energy from movement to charge the battery, like those Seiko watches.
