    Fran's on the money.

'New' Apple every step of the way.

    Why?

Well, lots of 'foot patrol' in Apple stores...not enough hard sales.

Apple want these stores to make a profit.

'Leak' and 'streaming keynote' are ways to ensure attendence.

Remember what happened with the midnight Jaguar 'Rumble in the Jungle'? Thousands turn out at stores for Jag'. A 'mere' OS update. What kind of 'nut' does that? That's the right kind of publicity. Do Wintel owners do this for Xp?

Say Steve Jobs announces immediate availability of...low end G5? Riots will break out.

It's a PR masterstroke. Apple already 'own' the internet news. Imagine if they can start getting on TV?

Customers are trapped in stores with wallet. No escape from RDF in full flow. Heck, customers will just hand over their bank accounts to Apple. The atmosphere will certainly thicken. There could be blood spilt!

Makes fer great press and the kind of 'REAL' publicity Apple needs to get people to 'Switch'.

Execution looks sublime from where I'm sitting. No 'big' preaching to the choir Mac shows. The Apple stores are where it's at now. Apple begin to preach to a wider choir as they gain converts. Word will travel about this...and as long as Apple keeps hitting 'home runs'...Wintel folks may well turn up as well. Apple sets gun to kill on impulse shopper. G5? Apple rakes it in...

Instead of a well attended Macshow that is covered by the 'Geek news'...Apple Stores are like beacons...on Frontier 'Wintel' territory...and riots at Stores all over America...people given Apple money 'right now' is better than giving people time to 'think' about a purchase on the way home from a show...a week later and still maybe no sale. Apple stores done right will lead to growth...hard units sold...to a wider public. Getting people 'out there' interested in the 'Mac'.

More foot patrol in Apple stores...more potential sales...yer dig where this is goin'?

Go the opposite direction on 70, and you can the whole drive done in 6 hours TOTAL.

WIshful thinking. Its takes around 6 hours one way.

Yep, I'll be slaving away behind an XP box at work right about the time everyone else is hopped up on RDF. Guess that means i'll be hitting F5 on the keynote stream page a couple hours later...

It definately takes just under 3 hours to get to Columbus. Don't be afraid to leave Pennsylvania.
