What is faster for internet? Mac or PC

At home I run OS 9.1 and I have DSL. I don't want to upgrade my operating system because I have a 7500 Powermac. Some pages take forever to open. Some not at all. I had a dsl tech over last weekand he told me that some web pages don't open on a Mac because of java scrips. At work I use an old pc but we are probably on a T1 line. It flies on the internet and all pages open. At home I use Netscape 4.7, Internet Explorer and also Mozilla sometimes.

Is it true that PC's do better on the internet? I am planning to buy a G5, for video editing but probably not until Macworld SF. In the meantime would I be better off buying a cheap PC dedicated to the internet or would a cheap Emac running Jaguar be faster for the internet.

    PC's and Macs are about the same in rendering speed, especially now with Safari. What I have noticed is that Macs handles multiple pages and windows better at the same time than PC's. (Because of more effective multitasking I presume)

    although i think its about even...i still think PC's have a slight advantage...there is something about MS servers that talk to MS browsers faster it seems...conspiricy i tell u!

    For web browsing, I don't think it matters anymore. Both platforms seem to be about equally responsive.

    Someone looked into that and seemed to figure out why it's true. Something about the browser not closing the connection to the server. So when it sends a request is assumes the pipe is still open. If it doesn't get the correct responce then it opens the needed connection. It's slower when the connection is closed but faster when it's open.

    Safari still doesn't talk to a great many web pages as properly as IE on Windows.

    I suspect your problems on the Internet are due to a slow computer, not a slow web browser. Try adding RAM to your computer, and setting Internet Explorer's memory settings so that it uses at least 32MB of RAM (64 would be better).



    If that doesn't help, and you can't wait for your G5, go ahead and buy a cheap PC (I wouldn't recommend spending more than $300). It'll age a lot worse than an eMac, but if you don't already have a PC, you might want to have one around...sometimes it's helpful.

    Dude... it's the Mac. I have the same machine...



    If you're just going to use it for web browsing and email from home... get an iBook or an iMac.

    you using OS 9?





    safari is fast and renders most pages properly

    I have my Powermac and PC in the same room, the Powermac with an Airport Card, the PC with a Linsys PCI network Card.

    I use Safari on the Mac and IE6 on the PC.

    I can honestly say that browsing on the PC is quite a bit faster than Safari on the Mac.



    I don't know why that is but it's the truth, wish it wasn't.

    I have a DSL connection shared by an Asante router. I use a Quicksilver 867 G4 running OS X 10.2.6 and I also have a Dell laptop running win2k my company gave me. I find Safari noticeably faster than the Dell. The Dell was faster last year when I was running early versions of Omniweb.



    In some cases there is a delay at the other and that can't be helped. I notice that if I try some of those web sites that test your speed I get quite different results depending on the site.



    The Dell isn't bad, it loads the New York Times reasonably well, but Safari is snappier.

    how fast is the dell...i find that either the dell is slower, you loaded too much crap and the porn has slowed down the PC...or ur just crazy

    IE for the PC is so much faster than anything on the Mac.
