Sony Ericsson P810 smartphone

Mobile Burn just posted pictures of the P810! It looks like a nice improvement over the P800. I'm especially glad they ditched the press-through keypad and made the thing a bit smaller.

Harald: What do you think about these pics? Anything more you can tell us now?

    Hi Escher!

Judgeing by these photos, I think that it still needs a lot of work. It looks too edgey and techy and totally lacks the elegance of the T610.

The screen seems to be smaller, too. I hope it is better than the T610's screen which is hard to read in direct (sun-)light. Nokia sure has an advantage over SE here.

Let's hear what Harald has say...

P.S.: Now I know what your nickname reminds me of: M.C. Escher. A (dutch?) artist, I bet you know him.

The screen is much better. Higher definition, more colours. Same size.

The flip is a hardware flip (ie it doesn't just touch the screen).

It has a CONSIDERABLE amount of internal storage (1GB I believe).

That's a shoit photo and I would expect it to look better in real life; I have not seen in with my own eyes.

    It's due in October.

Good to hear! Will it still be DSTN or will SE go TFT?

Wow! That's 500 times more than the T610 has. What memory technology will they be using?

I hoped it is an early prototype. The T610 really set a standard in slikness and elegance for mobile phones. I hope the T810 follows that design pattern: smooth curves, quality of materials...

Haha! When was its predecessor due and when was it delivered? Same with the T610 which still is relatively rare on the open market (though most of the networks seem to have plenty - but modified - ones) in Germany (Europe?).

And since it was not introduced at this year's CeBIT, I don't expect to see it before late next year.

That would be a fantastic change from my new but memory-challenged Moto T722i! I hope that the fact that Palm is licencing IBM's J2ME engine for its OS will encourage developers to write many great apps that work both on Palm devices and J2ME (smart-) phones.

I'll be ready whenever SE and the P810 are ready.

Anything else you'd like to share, Harald? Can you go (re-) visit your source(s) or at least call him/her/them on the phone? We want more juice!

Personally, I kind of like what the new Treo... the Treo 600 is shaping up to be. First Palm phone, or smart phone for that matter, I actually was not disgusted by.

I have been fighting (unsucessfully) to get my Moto T722i flip-phone to sync with my Palm and Address Book via iSync. After all the limitations of this combination, I think I would appreciate the simplicity of moving from a Palm PDA to a Palm phone. For now, there's no way my T722i can replace my Palm, as I had hoped it would.

I'm definitely looking forward to (the revelation of) the devices that are currently in the pipeline.

Any chance of this model having an OLED screen? Also 1 gig memory does that mean memory stick pro?

Sony Ericcson can kiss my CDMA butt!

The Treo 600 is going to rock the house. It will be the first smartphone that takes off, guaranteed.
