Ethernet Port out on iMac

Anyone know anyway around this?

USB ethernet adapter?

Do those exist for a Mac?

I have found a 802.11b USB Adapter that works with 10.2.

I just don't really have a need to go wireless.

The ethernet port is out. It does not work.

Be more specific. What exactly are you trying to do and/or connect to? An ethernet port is in/out, so I think we're not understanding your problem fully.

    That not very clear?

I would suggest AirPort...while it may not be cheap it will be faster than any USB solution. What kind of network are you on? Just wanting to connect to something like a cable/DSL modem or what?

Guys, his port is "out" as in "out cold" as in it is broken and doesn't work at all.

(Edit: Spart beat me to it)

There is no out/in. Ethernet is a bi-directional standard.

I know this is probably a waste of a post, but that was too funny.

I have a Linksys 10/100 USB adapter. I use it on my TiVo currently. it works well, it's cheap, and it's tiny.

OK, I guess I could be more clear.

It does not work. I have wiped the drive. same issue.

The port does not show up in ASP. Does not get a PC light on the cable modem when connected. I believe it's the lower end DV model that was not Airport ready. I could be wrong though, because it does have firewire on it. I looked in the door where you would put an Airport card, and the antennae cable is not there. The logic board needs to be replaced to get this working again. Which is expensive and not worth it.

It's a iMac here at work, that is just being neglected. I work for a ISP, and I'm trying just to buy it off them for $100. They won't repair it. They wouldn't even buy extra ram to put Jaguar on the other iMac. I had to pull the ram on the other iMac (Bad Ethernet port), and use MY copy of Jaguar to install it. This is a big company too, which confuses me. Cheap I guess. These Macs are used for training. Which no one uses since I'm the only "Mac Guy" here. So they just come up to me for questions. Which ends up being something else, and not a Mac issue.

Anyway, thanks for any help. Sorry for being vague. I knew it was a hardware issue, just didn't give those details. I just need to find another way of getting it online. If anyone knows for sure that a iMac with firewire on it is Airport ready, then I found my solution.

Nevermind, I have found the Airport antennae. It was in this soft plastic thing, on the inside. So I have my solution to get online. Just stick a Airport card in there. Still wish the ethernet port wasn't out.

    thanks for you responses!

It is out! That's what I've been saying! In AND out! Sheesh.

Yes, I get it now. Sorry for confusing 'out' with 'dead'.
