    No.

Why? Because the PowerPC is bigger than Apple. The PowerPC is bigger than Motorola.

You only see Motorola once on <a href="http://www.apple.com/g4."; target="_blank">www.apple.com/g4.</a> And in the context of "Apple, IBM and Motorola". Nowhere does it say that the G4 is made by Motorola. For Mac users G4 = Apple. Apple doesn't shout to the world who makes their chips, just their technology.

Apple doesn't own the PowerPC. If Motorola decides to get out of PowerPC, thats their business.

If they did, you would see a Motorola press conference or press release, and an Apple press release for investors to outline what the **** they are going to do now.

    (Shakes head.)

Y'know folks, just once, I'd like some of these 'wild card' threads to have some smoke leading to the bush fire...

Apple have a large installed user base. It's not inconceivable that they get AMD to continue 'their fight' against x86 land. AMD, unlike Moto', have shown they can trade punches with the best when their back is to the wall.

They have more desktop cpu focus than Moto seems to have. I think AMD's coffers would benefit proportionately more from seeing past reports about AMD's balance sheet. But might AMD find it all distracting when they've got Intel on the run?

And they haven't released 'Hammer' yet. My bet is they'll kick Intel around the 'server/worksation' market some more.

Never thought I'd see the day when Nvidia released a card for 'too small' a market as the Mac. Yeah. Only millions upon millions of users...could AMD turn down that business if offered it? Could they afford to?

Selling several million PPC cpus can't be bad for business. Certainly help AMD in war against Intel.

Speculation in addition...Apple never bash AMD. Only Intel. (Mainly, I guess, because any 'low end' AMD chip beats the snot out of Apple's 'top' end G4.)

AMD and Apple may even engineer an x86 boards. Proprietary. But given the upheaval with 'x' and the move from 9? Unlikely.

But, then...so was Mac Os anything on top of Unix. Apple have been killing more sacred cows than anybody these last few years.

They re-got into bed with M$ when it suited them.

Rumours had it that they gave Intel CPUs a long hard look many many moons ago.

They did a music player. Apple goes Sony? Who'd thunk.

They launched a '17 inch' emac when people thought it was 'not gonna happen' (eat crow pie you 15 inchers...)

Right now? I'm be more surprised if Apple launched a 19 inch Imac than a 'sledghammer' cpu.

    I ultimately don't see it. But that doesn't mean it's impossible...just 'unlikely'.

I think, for better or worse. It's Moto and IBM for now. For the last few years...this has 'megahurt'.

But as chips get smaller, cooler and the whole computing device minaturisation trend continues to 'flatter' and 'smaller' then PPC will prob' come into its own.

Think multicore G3 with SIMD unit? As opposed to 3 gig G4.

I think PPC will go 'wider' with haste rather than bolt purely for 'pure' speed ala Intel.

Many high end chips don't focus on mhz. However, if you don't focus on mhz then you look for other improvements like more than 1 fpu, ddr and a better bus. None of which the current 'power'Mac G4 have.

Sorry, the original question was...'At the press conference TOMORROW...'

    Oops. In that case...

    'No.'

Can we all start titling threads a little better? It doesn't take much. All this one needs is a nice '?' on the end of it, for example.

Big surprise that a thread of this quality was started by someone who calls themself urin8or. Next time remember to put a question mark at the end of your question, numbnuts. That way we'll know to ignore your thread instead of wasting our time reading it (because you titled the thread like you KNEW that AMD is taking over PPC from MOT - not like you're asking).
