Dual 2.0 G5s... not until October? Say it isn't so!

I just came back from stopping in at the local Apple dealer where I have a new Dual 2.0 G5 system on order. The dealer was telling me about the good news that the G5s should start showing up around the second week of August when I asked "What about the duals?", expecting their arrival would be in September some time.

"Not until October", he replied.

Ugh! October!? I'm hoping that turns out to be wrong, but perhaps demand for the duals (over the 1.6 and 1.8 GHz singles) caught Apple by surprise.

i bought mine from the apple store online and mine still says on or before september 2nd, and all the rumors suggest 3rd week of august for duels. store employees know nothing 90% of the time.

I ordered through an 'Applecentre' in the UK... I was originally quoted the last week of August for delivery of my dualie.

However I called yesterday, and it has allegedly 'slipped' to the 2nd week of September 'at the earliest'. I'm not too happy with this as I need it for a Post Grad Uni project from the 4th September. :hmm:

I really hope they are going to ship sooner as this could turn out to be a really PR nightmare for Apple.

I can't help but wonder if the 'leak' on the website 'forced their hand', and they felt they had to announce the machines at WWDC, when ideally they would have liked to keep them under wraps for longer, but have a shorted shipping wait...

if apple felt forced i definatly don't think they'd say they can ship them before they can...IF this is the case of them not shipping on time then i'd say its probably more because of the demand for them (i mean there are pretty many people getting them it seems...i think at least more then other updates)

Right, and Steve and Co got all the people to talk, and made that keynote in 3 days...

Apple planned the announcement for WWDC.

No custom config. I'm buying from an "Authorized Apple Dealer", however, not an Apple Store™ or store.apple.com, so I'm hoping I don't have to wait longer substantially longer because of Apple giving its own stores hugely preferential treatment.

If there is a delay I'd expect it might be because Apple received some sizeable corporate orders and is giving them priority before retail channel orders or smaller orders.

I talked with an Apple Store employee who said all web orders will probably be filled before they even get a machine to set up in the store.
