This has nothing in common with Apple, but it looks very nice.

It has more in common with Apple than you think.

Are a bunch of the people responsible for the little brick former Apple employees?

Nostradamus, I've noticed a distinctly less enthusiastic version of you in the past couple of weeks. Finally coming down off that Kormac fantasy, plastic-sniffing, high***, huh?

***I know the plastics are the signature of KKS, but they were essentially the same creature, one was just a better bullshiater, that's all.

Have you fully defected to PC's yet?

Perfect examples of engineers left to run free in the wild. Without the controlling influence of good designers and marketers you're left with completely unusable products.

OQO was formed by the former head of the Apple PowerBook design team. Before leaving, he ran his idea of an ultraportable computer by Steve, looking for Apple's support through licensing the Mac OS to them, IIRC. Jobs didn't go for it.

IMO, these things are becoming too small to be useful. However, if you could plug in a full sized keyboard and mouse and connect the output to an external monitor, then I could see where the small size could be an advantage.

Long live the Newton! Maybe a new iteration of this is coming at MWNY?

Ya, maybe when this was pitched to Steve and Co, he told the guys "no way" but the gears were turning saying, "Hell ya."

I bet he thought it was a good idea that could be done better by Apple. something like that...

How would you use WinXP on a screen that size? Adding an external monitor defeats the whole point of the thing really.

Clever engineering but not that useful.

Sorry to revive an old thread...

The OQO is out of the stalls at last. The question is, if this device, at the given price point ($1,899), had a G3/G4 chip in it, and ran OS X, would there be any takers?

I think I would. If it has wifi... I really think Apple should have something smaller than a 12". Saw a ultraslim Vaio the other day, close to one centimeter thick and very elegant.

I am going to wait for the pricing before examining it in detail.

And this is why I'm currently invested in Transmeta stock, ought to be a nice little spike once this puppy gets publicly launched. :P

I'm honestly a bit suprised at the pricepoint though. Basically this type of device should ideally be priced somewhere between a PDA and a low-end laptop, not in line with a high-end laptop, at least in my opinion. As nice as an ultra, ultra portable PC might be, it's a pretty tough pricepoint to put it at, why not just buy a laptop?

I'd rather have one of these:
