hi !

i just read that PowerLogix make cpu card upgrade available in end july and august (hum... just after MYNY !)

these card are based on Apollo G4 from 750 to 1Ghz ! based on MPC7455...

Apple/Motorola would NEVER let them do that if nothing faster was on the road...

remember the time it took to obtain 500Mhz G4 as cpu upgrade card ? Apple was still seeling 667 and 733 Mhz g4 :-)

i hope this is a sign something BIG is coming

    I found that on PowerLogix's website :

    <a href="http://www.powerlogix.com/news/press.html#powerforceg4"; target="_blank">http://www.powerlogix.com/news/press.html#powerforceg4</a>;

    There's hope

Also on the MacNN news page.

I suspect the eBay value of a used PM just went up a touch, and that, possibly, some cube owners will be very pleased.

This indicates that Motorola has 750Mhz-1Ghz chips to spare (and thus sells them to everyone). This could mean:

    - Production is going very well. This would probably mean that we get fast G4's (1.4Ghz?) at MWNY.

    - Apple's assembly lines are using less G4's (G5's?). Somewhat improbable given the credible rumors we've seen about a early 2003 intro of the G5.

1.2Ghz would be sensible, if coupled with a mobo upgrade and DDR-RAM. Would significantly increase Power Mac speed while not constraining chip supplies.

I wonder if these cards will be easily overclockable? dip switches?

Anyway it was guaranteed we'd see faster G4's this MWNY. Now the question is how fast? And maybe they won't be 7455s...

Uh, what about providing an upgrade for us G3 users? Wait. Nevermind. I'll just use my money and buy whatever amazing new CPU they release at MWNY.

Or, if Apple doesn't release a powermac that amazes me, I'll will regretfully start pricing PC's. (No PC vs. Mac replies please.)

    $750 is a little expensive.

My rule of thumb is that the Proc upgrade has to be less than a 3rd of the cost of the entry level Mac. That means come July we'll probably see a $1500 entry level G4 at 1Ghz. $500 is the most i'd pay.

I will never understand that "if apple doesn't give me a blow job at MWNY, I will get a PC" attitude.

Geeze if its so bad, go get a PC and leave us alone. I don't go to PC forums and say "Gee if DELL makes an iMac-like PeeCee, you know with built in FireWire, SuperDrive, iDVD, iMovie, iTunes/iPod, flatscreen on adjustable arm, UNIX based OS installed I will leave Apple for GOOD!!!" or the like.

Happily this is only the beginning

Expect to see faster Sidewinder G3 cards later this year. Sahara G3 upgrade cards could debute in late Q1 or early Q2 '03.

For squeemish liberals, just replace "blow job" with "G5" or "G4/DDR" and you will be fine.

I think conservatives will be the ones with the problem. I'm liberal and I love blow jobs.

conservatives and liberals both love blow jobs, conservatives just don't like to talk about them.

As far as the ultimatum attitude, do you think Steve is going to read your post and be like "Gee whiz Jon (Rubinstein), you'd better get your ass in gear and get those Quad G5 towers ready for MWNY, oh, and keep the price below $500."

Apple is doing what they can with what they have to deal with (BitchMoto).

    ciao,

Someone asked a good question over at Ars: Assuming the current 1GHz machines are both bandwidth-choked and memory-choked on the 133MHz MPX and PC133 RAM, what's going to happen when someone with a 100MHz MPX and PC100 RAM tries to run one of these things? Won't a lot of the extra MHz pretty much go to waste - at least on the 1GHz cards?

PS - Moderates love a good blow job too, and we'll talk about it, but only some of the time.
