So I have an interview with Apple.

I've been through two rounds of phone interviews with a recruiter, and on Monday I'll meet with the management team that has been hired for the new Apple Store opening in Richmond in September. (Apple hasn't listed it as a location that's "Coming Soon!" yet but I'm not giving anything away by announcing it here since Apple is listed as a retailer on this site.)

Does anyone here work in an Apple Store? How is it? Upsides? Downsides?

I'm pretty excited, anyway. The interviews with the recruiter went well and I've finally finished the huge application packet the recruiter PDF'ed and sent to me. I haven't decided how to dress for the interview, though. I'm used to putting on a suit for interviews, but the Apple Store (and Apple in general) doesn't seem to be a suit-and-tie environment.

Congrads. I heard that it pays pretty well ($10 an hour or so). I want to apply for a job, but I need to be 18. Oh well, in 5 years.

Have fun, and actually be helpful to customers.

How on earth can that be considered a reasonal salary? I have NEVER had a job that was paid anything less that $15 and I have had pretty bad jobs.

Cleaning: 15$

Sorting used coke bottles: $20

Customer service: $18

Even delivering papers: $15

$10 is ABSOLUTE NEWBIE salary. Promotions are probably more. And I get payed about $10 an hour for delivering papers, but I only work one hour. And there isn't much manual labor at the Applestore.

Neither do we unless we make much more. From a salary of $20/h (150 kr.) I would pay about a third in taxes (excluding sales tax).

But then again if I look on my current situation as a college student i get this:

Monthly pay for being a student:$600

Monthly pay for customer service job (80*$15): $1200

Total $1800. After tax $1200 (using $1 = 7.5 kr.)

Ha Ha. Welcome to America, land of minimum wage and 20% unemployment among high school and college students.

Oh, and when you said interview with Apple I was thinking as a software engineer or something, not for retail.

I won't be an absolute newbie. I'm being considered for two positions: Mac Specialist and Keyholder.

The benefits are quite good, too.

That's another 'little' thing: 25% sale tax on everything.

But at least Norway is much more expensive

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the discount an Apple employee gets on Apple products?

I'm speaking of lets say someone who works in an Apple Store.

You weren't, sorry. I just didn't expect the discussion to turn into one about hourly wages and such.

Keyholder is Applespeak for some sort of liaison between the sales and management teams in an Apple store, and that's one of the positions I'm being considered for in addition to Mac Specialist, which I think is the title of most of the employees you see in the store who aren't behind the Genius Bar. I used to work for Capitol Mac here in Richmond, until Sept. 11 2001 came and caused business to drop pretty sharply. I was the first person let go after that happened. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Capitol Mac and MacPro Solutions, the two independent resellers here, now that Apple itself is moving into town.

EDIT: not "before Sept. 11" but "until." Sheesh.

Apple Store employees do get a discount on all merchandise, and they also are able to purchase up to four Macs a year at a discounted price. I learned that in one of the phone interviews. The discount percentage varies.

I can't remember what one of the Apple specialist said @ the Apple Store in Soho but they do get a really good discount, more than 25%. For some reason 40% keeps on sticking in my mind. He told me that because I mentioned that I was going to purchase the dual G5 but the fact that there will be a rev.1 (the speculated 3 mhz) model within 12 months, I was thinking of delaying...and he said "well I hope it don't get completely sold out"...because he has The Cube (like me) and wants to update with the G5 BUT the employees CANNOT take advantage of the discount until first big batch of the orders have been shipped out. Guess Apple wants to make sure that the hungery Apple customers get fed first before the employees hord the stock with their discounts.

Bt the way, does anyone remember when IBM used to give 40% educational discounts and Apple would give 30% edu?
