Panther coming sooner than expected?

In a newspaper article posted here a claim is made that new iMacs bought for the Yuma, AZ school district will be running the 10.3 version of OS X. Not that we should read a lot into technical things published in local papers, but it was interesting nonetheless.

    The idiotic reporter probably "rounded up" from 10.2.6.



    That Great Wall of iMacs picture was sweet, though.

    My guess is they have OS X 10.2.6 in the box and have included a free upgrade to Panther whenever it comes out.

    i've heard rumblings of panther coming very very soon after the G5's are released, just not in time for the shipping boxes! who knows for sure, i'm just glad it's coming!

    10.3 will not be until december, don't kid yourself. This happend last time around with Jaguar.



    Panther is at build 7b21

    Jaguar ended at build *L***



    Trust me much more is to come, even in the latest build there are additional features. Apple has much planned for Panther just many features were too unstable to present in the WWDC preview.



    Wait and see. December.

    I sai hold it back as long as they need to in order to provide the fastest most stable version possible and also with the most gee whiz features they can.



    Face it, jaguar meets most of our needs more than adequately today. Panther is going to be major icing on the cake and its still going to be a year or 2 ahead of the competition upon release.



    Apple has the leisure of making this PERFECT and i think their by the end of the year statement leaves them room for that

    Apple listen, take as LONG as you like . Jaguar is decent enough for the time being. But when I connect to an FTP and Finder hangs. Or some other odd happenings that _should_ have been ironed out before GM release, I get upset.



    I have seen the result of many products (non-computer related) that needed to meet a deadline and were rushed. September is too earlier from what I've seen of the latest versions of Panther. And from what the developer release has in it, they had better jack up the features if they expect people to shell out another chunk of change.



    Take your time Apple, I'm fine where I am. 8)

    I think october at the earliest, but possibly november. I hope it won't be december though.

    Here's hoping that Panther will be *near* perfection on release.

    I remember when jaguar was just released and reading the posts here about constant updates that needed to be downloaded.

    Thats ok for those with a fast connection, 56k won't cut it for OS updates which tend to be huge at times.



    I also remember people here saying that an OS is always a work in motion, constantly being honed, and that any gripes about updates were void.



    Yes, I too believed at the time that Jaguar was imperfect on release and that put me off upgrading from 10.1.5.

    Apple should take their time on this one.



    So, fingers crossed that Panther will be let loose only when its fit enough to be so.
