I've been dealing with the same issue since the faceplate on my blaupunkt became unreadable.

    I had five criteria:

    1. Simple, black interface

    2. Rotary knob (hate machine gunning the volume button)

    3. Aux Input for my iPod

    4. Reads MP3s

    5. Not very expensive (I have a convertible Jeep for crying out loud)

Not many simple black interfaces. Blaupunkt still makes a few, but none that play mp3s.

Most of the companies have optional aux inputs, but then I'd have a couple of dangling wires when I wasn't using the iPod.

Searched around on ebay and found a few good deals. But I just don't like the idea of buying stuff on ebay. Rather deal with a known quantity.

Finally settled on the JVC KDSX990. It's okay I guess. Does the job and has a front aux input. Cost $200. Ended up buying it a circuit city so I got it installed for $4.00. It has a subtle grayish/silver frame. Doesn't stick out too bad. Not as nice an interface as my oldish Blaupunkt though. Wish it didn't have so many damn colors for the buttons.

I don't know, I like my Pioneer stereo with the bright blue lights, silver outside and small buttons.
