Macbidouille sez G5 PBs coming using .09µ G5 in Feb/Mar 2004. New fab process starts end of Nov. with full production in January. Sounds good to me. Now, if Apple would just get the last of the G4 PBs out.

Jeez-louise. And yes, they - along with all the other sites - have been SO right about the whole PowerBook saga so far...

(eyeroll not directed at you, Rolo...just the whole subject in general).

Why - at this point - would be believe anything some half-ass rumor/news site claims to know? How many more "uh, nope...never mind" scenarios do we have to endure?

Ugh. I'll see it when I see it. Meanwhile, I'm using the living crap out of my iMac...probably more than I EVER have in the 18 months I've owned it!

Omek, I was in some office store a while back and they had some Compaq laptops and one model/line was rather sleek (aluminum, thin body and all) and had these COOL blue status lights (as opposed to the standard green Apple seems to use a lot). Not the light, milky blue of some of the G4s or whatever, but a sharp, crisp royal "indiglo" type of blue (actually, the same type of blue as the whole Aqua/OS X/gel button look).

I was thinking how much cooler Apple's gear would all look with that type of lighting on the power/status buttons and lights. Totally fits in too, with "aqua" and all and the overall "blueness" Apple seems to dig these days (the Apple menu icon, the Aqua interface elements, the default desktop in OS X, etc.).

Put me down for a "yes"! Blue, glow-y light (or lights, depending on model).

Glowing lights have the potential to look really bad and corny. Some of the HP laptops have this and it looks cheap and out of place.

The White sleep light on the current PBs looks much better. The whole minimalist design calls for stuff that looks cool but provides a useful function. A light telling you that your PB is awake is pretty pointless I think. Any other information can be displayed in the toolbar or flash up on the screen like the volume/brightness control.

The sleep light is helpful because it tells you if your laptop is either a sleep or off.

I hear ya. I agree that most rumor sites like macbidouille have little real insights to offer but they're still fun to read.

Still, I wouldn't want to be the one to torment a poor soul waiting for a dandy new PB.

Ahhh come on.... you know you would enjoy the same blueish glow you get from the keyboard on your trackpad and buttons... HP laptops are cheap and corny, but maybe Apple could make the illuminated lighting look much better... Give IN to the blue!

so with the new powerbook what upgrades possible, can the emac 4xsuperdrive be put in the powerbook? i looked at the present superdrive (more like mediocre drive to me) it's 1x and very slow to write cd's, dvd external burners are getting cheaper and faster shouldn't apple keep up to date, there is more to be had. agree?????

Apple seems to be pushing sales of PowerBooks and iBooks this back-to-school season. Does that mean its more likely for them to update them sometime in september after they've sold a bunch?

Just curious if they've done this before

Rumor has it that there are more delays with Motorola... it looks like the new Powerbook line Up-Date won't be for a few more months.

You know, I hope Apple decides to for go the Motorola up-date and just jump into the new IBM processor. Just delay the Powerbook Up-date until Christmas time. This will keep all those anticipating a purchase waiting and the G5 will grab a lot of attention for Christmas sales.

Apple has already missed the crucial Back-to-School sales period and will have to count it's loses. But they can capitalize on them buy having one HUGE upgrade near the end of the year.

    Powerbooks'll come out, Tomorrow!

Betcha bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be...powerbooks. Jus' Thinkin' about, tomorrow, takes away the impatience and the sorrow, till there's none. When I'm stuck w/ a day, thats gray, and powerbookless, I jus stick up my chin, and grin, and sayyyyy........

The Powerbooks'll come out, Tomorrow! Betcha bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be...powerbooks. Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I Love ya, Tomorrow, Its only a day away.....

lol, let it be true! I'm just getting ready to make the "Switch" and I don't wanna spend money to have an update comin' around the corner.

Hurry the hell up, Motorola. Dunno if this would be the right way to introduce myself to the community, but what the hell, a little humor is good. Well I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions in the future. This seems like a great group. Later all.

    Show tunes, baby! Why not?

If putting on a red curly wig and singing a bit will make this PowerBook appear sometime in not-too-distant future, then I'll add harmony.

Looks like we're all going so insane from imminent Powerbook updates that we've created a musical.... hehe...

I'm sure Steve is laughing his ass off...

Let's hope they're tomorrow, Ryan. Nothing could make me happier...

Fairytales can come true. It can happen to you... if you're Mac at heart.

For it's hard you will find to be narrow of mind... if you're Mac at heart.

Steve can go to extremes with impossible things...

You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams.

And life gets more exciting with each passing day

And your Powerbook is either in your heart or on its way.

OK I'm startin to get ansy....

This guy told me that he could get me a good deal on the Brooklyn Bridge, but I passed.

I think if I wait long enough they'll replace it with an Aluminum one.

Was he an Apple store employee? If so, he has no idea what's coming or when beyond a couple of weeks. There aren't even that many people inside Apple corporate who know the details of what's coming and when.

I don't think there'll be a G5 PB until March, at the earliest. Apple has to have an update of some sort before then.

970+. The heat/power issues should be manageable with it.

They're giving price cuts because there won't be any new PB's til Jan-2004.... the logic fails me. Seems like it would be a good time to leave the prices stagnant and be pumping out a bunch of them to max the profit out of the line and always have them on the shelf for delivery...hmm
