Are we to believe that black women are the oppressors of white men?
Nick
Looking at it afresh in the light of your perspicacious reasoning, Nick, I can see that, yes, black women are indeed responsible for the high rates of infant mortality, falling literacy rates and and the comparatively high numbers of death and injury by gunshots that oppressed, downtrodden white men have to face as matter of course in their progress through their days living in the United States of America.
That reply doesn't really make sense, particularly as the courts and jails are primarily state run institutions. Here's some links about differing definitions of capitalism and socialism. Maybe you can be more specific?
I simply believe the amount of housing "given away" (I use the term loosely) is enough, and I have no desire to want to see the system expanded at the expense of tax payers.
I personally am not a big fan of government housing.
Regarding the courts and jails, our government is comprised of three systems: judicial, legislative, and executive branches. Seeing how the courts are part of the judicial system and the jails are in response to that, as everyone benefits from both, it makes sense for that to be paid for by taxes. Housing doesn't benefit everyone.

Poor ikkle white men.
I want to hug them all and make it better.
Hey it was your reasoning and your criteria. I just applied it with more than the two groups you selected. (White men and black men)
Don't you think the fact that the author is black might just mean he has a certain perspective on these issues?
Nope..
Like I said..."truth knows no colour "....Anymore than my being decendant from a bunch of convict bastards will give my opinion more credence to talk about the political future of northern ireland or to demand fiduciary compensation from mother England for the hundreds of years of Irish oppression and the destruction ( by starvation ) of the irish nation.

I usually respect your viewpoint, but this time I'm flabbergasted. Come back to the topic of race relations after you've had a bottle of piss thrown at you for your skin color. There are still ignorant racist SOBs in all walks of life, politics is no exception.

Yes I agree,
As a child I had to contend with being called a mick, a spick, a wog, a dago, achingchong, slanty eyes, slope head even a bloody nazi papist ..go figure ? And yes I have been shot at twice...as well as having an apple thrown from a speeding car whilst I was in a demonstration supporting aboriginal land rights.( it knocked me unconcious ) All for standing up for equal rights.
If you want to know my skin colour I am a dark olive-to yellow brown...except for my bum..which never gets exposed to the suns rays...
And as for my family, we're a proud mix of Italian, Irish, Celt, Sri-lankan & Indonesian..
My nieces and nephews are an absolute mixture of colour and joyful happiness..
I am sorry that you had a bottle of piss chucked at you. I have never had a bottle of piss thrown at me, but I have been bashed as well as spat on more times than I can count...
As regards the SOB's doing this stuff to me & some of my friends and family well believe me when I say some of these attacks have come from people who themselves have been subjected to racism and who should by rights know better..
But we've learnt to roll with the punches..I can't change them by beating them up..I can only shame them by speaking forcefully and honestly..
To me racism is not just about color..its a exenophobic state of mind..an attitude born of fear as well as individual & cultural arrogance.
These days, overt racists are hard to spot, but their out there alright, they're often the smarmy ones who pretend to be your friend..just to assuage their own sense of liberal " guilt " .
Making me a mascot, curtailing their language or behaving in such a way as to not outwardly offend while all the while they are ravening wolves.
Like you LiquidR...I don't want to be treated different or special. I fvck up just like anyone else..& I don't need to be told how oppressed I've been.I just want everyone to treat each other with equal respect and dignity..and really mean it...in their hearts and minds..
So sorry if I offended you LiquidR...& that goes for you too Blue Meanie..no offence Mate..Ok ..shake hands..?

Apology accepted. I apologize also for mis-interpreting your point of view. I may have also read that article in a different light since I am doing a lot of soul searching about my role and my abilities within the US culture and its inabilities compared to its beauties. Plus the level of sleep dep I was at was probably not helpful.
I too have been called every racial epiteth under the sun, while living in Central America I was often stopped by US MPs b/c I fit the description (not white) of someone who committed some crime. I too have been spat on. I don't think I have learned how to deal with such incidences properly. It just pisses me off.
I would appreciate your brief interpretation of the article.
Well Blue Meanie to be honest..I thought you were patronizing me by calling me " mate...."
I've experienced the aggresive form of " mate " rendered with some venom while living in Pommyland..
So like an upstart colonial S.O.B....I took exception without checking your intention... it's the old Ned Kelly in my belly...
Anywaze...fellas
The shout's on me....( that's aussie slang for I'm buying ). I am sending over a cool draft.....She'll be round your place of work in two shakes of her curly mane....

Have you? And just what were you doing at the time?
Seriously though, sure, "mate" can be aggressive, but only in certain circumstances. It depends on the context and the tone of voice of the speaker. Normally it's just a casual sentence padder, like "man" used to be used by Hippies way back in them thar 60s.
But point taken. Colloquialisms rarely translate 8)

Yes colloquial values rarely translate well over the internet..
Calling someone a bastard can have you shot in most parts of the US but calling someone an old bastard in Oz is almost akin to a compliment..But like snake poison, it has to be delivered in just the right dose to give a happy buzz to it..
Deliver it with the wrong intonation or with the wrong look on your face & the chances are you'll be dead before you hit the floor...
But then part of the fun in living in Oz is the adrenelin rush we get from wrestling with aussie slanglish..
And anyway, Aquafire me old china, surely the word "mate" is not unkown in Australian Engish?
Errrm.......We invented the word...I think..
Australian english..that's almost an oxymoron...
We call our version of the mother tongue.." Strine "
Probably coz it was a strain to the lug-holes..
Oh and as to your joking question as to what I was doing at the time....I'm a bit hazy ..( I used to live in Grovenor Road W1 )...but I have vague memories of chatting up someone's bird..
Hey..I can't help it if they think I'm cute...
But the lager-lout boyfriend didn't like my colonial eloquence & charm....needless to say..there were consequences.....
PS LiquidR..Re your request..I don't know what else to add, other than prove the Fwits wrong by just getting on with your life with decency & tolerance..
Be a model of compassionionate forgiveness, but equally stand up when the going gets tough..Racist bullies usually fear real confrontations..at least that is my experience.
