You're stranded on a desert island and you've got one CD
Here's a little challenge for all you music aficionados: You're stranded on a desert island and you get to have ONE music CD with you. It can be a mixed one that you made yourself before getting stuck or it can be a regular CD. Your choice.
What would you take? If it's a mixed CD, what would be on it?
One rule: the CD is a regular length cd - 80 minutes or less.
I'll start:
I don't know what the entire CD would have, but I know that Fake Plastic Trees would be on it.

But in the spirit of torture I'd bring a CD "spoken version " of the Entire Encyclopedia Brittanica with Oxford Dictionary for all those cryptic crosswords I love doing.
Oh and a speaker designed to look like a parrot that could talk to me...

Why does it have to be 1 CD ? What if you want the Ring Cycle or something ? This seems a bit discriminatory to me...
Ssshhh.. ( whispers ).....I think torifile posted this while sleep walking...It's his dream so go along with it for a while...

Those are the rules. If you don't wanna play, go to your own sandbox.
I don't know, I just thought it would require some deep thought about what you think are absolutely essential songs or albums.
And, Aquafire, this isn't a debate. Don't be an ass. Just kidding.... of course you've got a CD player. And it runs on solar power.
I'll prefer to think to various music and tried to remember them.
One cd? Umh ... one that I did a few years ago and that I can provenly listen to for months and months. It has about half of the tracks of Peter Gabriel / Passian and half Apocalyptic / Cult. Quite different of each other, but I found an order for them that sounds really good.
Why one cd? I'd rather have an iPod with an everlasting battery than a cd and no cd player.

Exactly - can't we take a musical instrument of our choice instead ?
The reason I started this thread was because I wanted a way to get some ideas for mixed cds or purchases that I should make. If it's essential enough for you to take it as your only music, then it must be good. Personally, I'd take my iPod too. But what would be on it?

I think i'll just stick to my iPod. I wouldn't survive the music of you two forever.
I've narrowed it to two:
Skinny Puppy: Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse
Slowdive: Blueday
(Joy Division: Closer would be a good selection if you aren't planning on living too long on the island
Ween - Chocolate & Cheese
Bach: art of the fugue.

Forgetting the fact that nothing will survive repeated exclusive listening, I'd STILL (I have mentioned this album before) take "Disintegration" from The Cure.
I thought you'd chime in with that. I need to give it a re-listen. For repeated listening, I'd go with ok computer.

I think it would have to be something that has really stood the test of time and has many layers to permit repeated listening. Hmm, I guess that rules out the pop/rock music you kids listen to on both counts
Bach: art of the fugue.
the idea that you need more intelligence, or have to be "deeper" to listen to centuries old european music is ludicrous.
