At least their timing is consistent... 14 business days from today is 9/22... I suspect, that we can believe this number...

Too bad though that they limited the first shipments to educational *institutions*.... else I'd have had some advantage...

I think the part about overwhelming demand is crap. No way demand surged in the last week so that Apple failed to see this coming. They knew, and the owed us a better and earlier warning. 10-15 business days seems like a sneaky way to make people think less than 2 weeks, when its really 2-3 weeks.

I am still waiting for a valid explanation.

No, but they just recently decided that educational buyers will get theirs first.

    Got the same email.

The reason I got so mad was the change at the last second. I would have been calmer if I had gotten this email 2 weeks ago.

Went to see my anger management counselor and I was instructed to say the flowing continuously for the next 2 weeks.

    "Its just a computer"

    "Its just a computer"

    "Its just a computer"

I tried to tell him its not, its a Power Mac G5 but hey......

They would have been a little better if you would have ponied up the cash for one yourself.

But then, you have been sort of anti-Apple lately.

    Okay, this is weird.

Went to the Apple store online and configured a dualie just like mine.

It shows a delivery date of 10-15 business days.

I ordered 6/30 and its the same for me.

I can only hope that maybe it will be a bit sooner.

Great for someone just ordering. Wasn't it like 4-6 weeks just 2 days ago?

I also got the education discount. I'm guessing that only institutional orders will be filled first... but that would be great if individual buyers also got priority. Otherwise at least I'll have a happy halloween.

Well according to this, Virginia Tech has ordered 1,100 Dual G5s. And they want them ASP so that they can be ranked in Linpack's Top 500 Supercomputer list. Apple has bumped this order to the top of the list ahead of all others.

These machines are decked out with 4 to 8 GB of RAM making this a 4-5 million dollar order. If I were Steve I'd get this order out the door ahead of Bob from Ohio too.

I've ordered a 1.8 GHz G5. Friday, I got the "delayed shipment" email, saying within 7 to 10 business days my Mac would ship.

Tonight, I got an email saying my Mac has shipped. Needless to say, I'm happy. :-)
