Until Apple changes the NO PDA's FOR YOU slogan nothing will happen on that angle. On the Phone issue. Hum.. Tough one. The Global Village bondage which has been living on in all the recent macs will eventually have to come to an end. Whatever the current hardware config is does not allow the use of the modem. Is this a software limitation? (I think I read somewhere that this was hardware). An iPhone app would be handy. Maybe even using telephony too. I'd like to see such an iApp. So my answer, in summary. iPDA. No. iPhone. Maybe.
Further note (sorry, I didn't address the CELL part of your question). Cell phone connection with OS X? Too many brands, too little usablity. An Apple branded cell phone? Not a chance. What else can an iApp do? You mean link to the phone carrier's website to download voicemail? Agian, not enough usage, too many brands. I don't see a risky strategic alliance in Apple's future.

I don't think we can even concieve of what Apple has coming next. Two suggest that there are only two Digital Hub devices to go shows a lack of vision.

The mp3 player has been taken care of as has the cd-player with the drag and drop decktop burning in osx, but the camera, camcorder, and pda haven't...
We have seen iMovie, iDVD, iTunes & iPhoto make all these once complex tasks simplier and easy to use. They have become practical, useful and the envy of both software and hardware manufacturers throughout the industry.

However, the initial iPhone has already been created and abandoned by Microsoft. Does anyone remember the MicroSoft Cordless Phone. This is/was a great concept, however, one that can be improved upon and made simplier by Apple. Here is the specs.....

Yup, PDAs/PIMs and telephony/voice communications/videoconferencing. That's pretty much it.
Though I do think Apple will realize they're making a mistake by ignoring television, just like they realized they made a mistake by going DVD first and ignoring CD-RW for all those months/years. Hell, if there's an iApp to put together movies, and an iApp to burn movies to a DVD to watch in your living room, I don't see why there can't be an iApp that has TiVo-like functions and capturing abilities, plus I'm sure part of it would be the ability to share all of the things you've made on your digital hub Mac out on the big screen in your living room. Perhaps even remote-controlling your Mac, or something to do with HDTV... There's all sorts of possibilities there.

Boy, you hit it right on the button.
It would also be nice if you could phone into your Mac and check on things, if you could place calls directly through your Mac without a handset, somehow integrate cell phone usage, maybe videoconferencing/videophones, use VoIP internet telephony, etc etc.. Apple could really integrate all of these communication-related tasks well. Though the video stuff might be a separate app and the cell phone linkage might just be built in to Mac OS X.
