    A DVD can be simply copied (in MPEG2) in the same way you copy MP3 into iPod. This is not illegal if you buy source DVD...

    Interesting, but not practical. Too expensive. While your dreaming, why not throw in a flash rom chip slot so you can get your photos into it on the road. But about the price... why not just buy a laptop? It'd be cheaper...

    I don't think it's too expensive. How much costs a good DVD portable player from Sony, Pioneer, ecc? iCinema will do more, much more...

    DVD read speed would be the limiting factor, and that is nowhere near 139b (or even 1394a) speeds.

    This is true. I think a DVD driver 4x can copy a film in about 1/4...

    Not to mention that DVD's native res is 720x480, IIRC.
