I wonder if this update is already on the G5s as part of 10.2.7. I wonder since if I boot up Software Update on mine, all I see is iPod updates. Is this the first release of Java 1.4.1; I have a Java 1.4.1 Plugin already installed that was created and modified August 6th. If this what the update gives you?

No, it's Update 1 to the existing Java 1.4.1 implementation.

Hmmm. So that makes me wonder why it isn't showing up.

Seems that I have version "1.4.1_01", so it looks like the G5s already have the new Java.

You have to look a little further:

    The new one is called:

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-69.1)

    The old one is:

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-39)

You probably have something in between.

It seems that the problems you have with certain sites are because they are targeting MS JVM (or are writing platform dependent Java code).

The world will be a better place when everybody stops using that (MS doesn't distribute it anymore AFAIK).
