Experience showed, that you could overclock most processors by 10-20%. As you state correctly, some lots could not be overclocked at all and some could be overclocked quit well. I used a G3/300 overclocked to 350MHz@50Hz for two years before it started to act weird. Turning it back to 300@40Hz gave it another year.

[li]What speed improvements do you think we'll see from unburdening the CPU(s) (ie: Quartz Extreme,; Firewire & Ethernet gaining DMA to DDR main RAM; etc)?
Lowest Model = 933MHz/128MB RAM/CDRW/15" LCD/ higher bus
Mid Model = 933GHz/256MB RAM/CDRW/17" LCD/ higher bus
High Model = 1GHz/512MB RAM/CDRW/17"LCD/ higher bus
Then G4's just get dual, that shouldn't cost too much but it would increase performance and specs alot...well the 17" might make it more expensive, but to increase a system bus it can't cost alot right?

But surely an optical pathway is going to be a bottleneck for the Q5! Now if Apple licensed that photon-teleportation technology that was recently announced... The light would leave the CPU and arrive at the RAM without traversing the distance in between!

Starting mid july, Apple will give you a free Athlon 5Ghz for rendering the work you do on the G4. So you'll be able to work in your confortable OS but still get the speed needed.
