Quake III on a G5
I got a copy of Quake III arena recently, and it isn't OS X native, so I can only play it in classic. And when I play it in classic, the audio is choppy and delayed. And when I used this update (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...iiiarenax.html), Quake bounces a couple of times and crashes.
What is wrong?

If you get the latest patch you can play it in X nativly.
Its choppy cos your playing it in classic which is basically just an emulation of system9.
Download the patch and just copy the files into there relative locations in your quake3 install folders.

So what did that update do? (http://www.apple.com/downloads/maco...eiiiarenax.html)
That update just added and extra game to the original, what you need is the Point file, which will let it run correctly in X. you can get it from most apple download sites just do a google for it or try ftp.idsoftware.com
I think the last one is the 1,32point release.

So where can I find that patch? What would it be called?
Go to ftp.idsoftware.com, or versiontracker and look for quake 1.32point release. I think its still on apples site.
idsoftware
the actuall package is called quake3-132.pkg.sit
(I have dialup, so I want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing before I start a 29 MB file)
ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/qua...cTest2.pkg.sit
Yup, Q3 with altivec-support (and recompiled with GCC 3.3 for G5). Gives a minor boost on G4 systems at least.
