What is the least that would satisfy you?
We've had predictions upon predictions. Let's face it, we don't know sh*t.
And some, probably will never be happy with what Apple offers. Some are even ready to jump ship (although I think it's more bark than bite)
Would the introduction of a PDA negate your anger of the PowerMacs only going to 1.2 gHz?
In other words, what is the absolute minimum offering at MWNY that would keep you still pumped about Apple.

Let's make one thing clear.... Even if Apple didn't update a single product I would stay with them. Jump ship? Never. Everything I have works flawlessly. Perhaps my 500 G4 Powerbook is getting a bit 'slow' but it'll do if it has too.
I won't be disappointed no matter what. I have learned to not expect anything.

I am about to replace my (little old ;-) ) umax pulsar 180Mhz right after macworld.
I will be satisfied with: dual proc beneath 1ghz or single proc@1ghz or more, superdrive and NEW ENCLOSURE - the old one looks sooo old-fashioned to me.
10.2 would be VERY nice.

So, here's my minimum line-up:
- $1599: Dual G4/933 256MB DDR-266
- $2299: Dual G4/1000 256MB DDR-266
- $2999: Dual G4/1133 512MB DDR-266
The last would require some additional incentives. I don't really care about HDs--I'd rather get a little one for boot/sys and then put everything else on a software RAID [a cheap pair of Dual 40GB/ATA100s]--I don't care about the size of the storage, I care about the bandwidth.DDR 266 bandwidth for the processor bus and DDR 266 RAM would make me happy.
AGPx8 would also be necessary since this will probably be "the" motherboard for Apple for a while, judging by how long we've had the current one.

He said that the customers demanded a dedicated unique server platform, and that now Apple is dedicated to that. No other company puts the same Mobo in their servers as in the desktop. Hell Dell's servers are mainly PIII still. If you expect the Xserve mobo you WILL be disappointed. Steve himself has said it won't happen, just not in those words exactly.

Fun to dream, yes. But I hope everyone realizes that that is all that post is. No realism in any of it.
However, my minimum to purchase a new PowerMac would be a new, somewhat smaller case and what I would consider at least a 10% increase in performance. That is to say I want it better, not just the same thing in a new case. That may mean more MHz or DDR or who-knows-what. Same prices.
1. - Motherboard upgrade exchange options. (I want to change a 733 to a dual 1gig...how manty would love this?)
2. - CDR to DVD to what ever comes next exchange options.
3. - The Apple Care program is good, but Macs don't break like PCs..I would prefer a hardware upgrade, trade-in, remolding program. A kind of Apple Upkeep Plan. I can't afford $5 to $8 thousand dollors every two years, but I can handle a $500 to $800 3year upgrade plan.

I realize that server hardware differs from regular hardware, no question about that. But are you saying that we won't even get what the Xserve provides in the way of DDR? If we still have the same pathetic PC133 in this tower update, I seriously doubt Apple will see an improvement in sales.

Either a frontside bus tha supports FAST DDR RAM, OR an improved MPX 166 MHz system bus combined with the xserve hack.
That's the least that will satsify me.
Dual 1.2 ghz
266 FSB with DDR Ram or some innovative Motherboard improvement to eliminate the bottleneck of the current system.
More than that and the check is already in the mail.
Not matter what, I will stick with Apple though. I have access to fast PC's They are great for processing data, but I can't stand to work on any of them. Macs and the Mac OS provide the most effecient user interface available, and that is where I need my speed. Not to mention their reliability! I got an AMD 1900+ with Win XP. It is great for processing data, but otherwise is the biggest waste of money I have ever spent, not to mention the $260 in repairs in the first 4 months and downtime. The computer I work on 80% of the time is my 600mhz iBook with airport, the other 20% of the time is my Power Mac 800.
10-25% less real world price. All models, all price points from the high-end to the low.
