The New X and the New Finder icon suck. The X is plain metal. How much ass does that suck compared to Jag? Granted faux fur under "glass" looked kind of gross. I was hoping they'd get rid of the glass look and give us black fur. Perhaps license that old cartoon even and make it pimpin pink?
I agree that the new apple logo is ugly and utter crap. If you like it, you either have no sense of design, or you're a teenager. I don't know where Apple find they're graphic people, but they're definately not in the same league as their engineers (unless of course it's the engineers doing the art work.) Steve should get Pixar to do the work, they design with alot more class.
My first question would be, what is the Apple supposed to be made of? I certainly don't know, neither do you, and I bet who ever designed it has absolutely no idea either. Paper? Ceramic? Plaster?
Is that thing laying on top of the apple supposed to be a reflection? Well, someone in this thread has already mistook it for a scratch, so that isn't reading either.
Why on earth is there all that detail on the bottom 1/16th of the leaf? Let me get this straight ... they have a smooth "reflection" covering 1/3rd of the apple, and they have another "reflection" with some weird hooky thing on the bottom covering 99% of the leaf?
Someone has taken was is easily considered one of the greatest corporate logos of all time, and completely bastardized it.
Well, on a semi-related note (I think I'm going on my third year of calling for this): how come they can do all this slick stuff in OS X (Genie Effect, soft shadows, transparency, that cool fast user switch in Panther with the desktop spinning around on a cube, etc.), BUT the best they can do when you pull something out of the dock is that LAME, graceless Wile. E. Coyote smoke cloud that looks right at home on an early 80's Atari game? Jeez...
Again, here's the solution: REALLY play up the whole "aqua" thing and when you pull something out of the dock, it fades away into pond ripples.
Eye candy, sure. But COOL eye candy. And a tad more elegant - and sensible, considering - than that idiotic smoke puff.
For what it's worth, this morning I used my 17" iMac box to store some old stuff, and I noticed that the apple logo on the box is the same metallic apple. I think it's identical, but I'm not sure.
As a designer who's worked on some OS interfaces, some of those 'enhancements' in logos and startup screens are simply experiements and fun for developers and designers. This by no means, means it's going into the GM version. Think about the Adobe beta apps that have odd startup screens. That's just people having fun. So take it with a grain of salt.
Also, if Apple is going in that direction with their logo, I doubt they would introduct it in a beta build of the OS. The logo redesigns usually come from branding and the first instances will always be in ads, then gradually be introduced everywhere else. Not the other way around. That's how traditionally it works.
Maybe I'm wrong this time, I sure hope not. I'm more of a fan of the simple startup grey logo. Keep it simple. Although I wish the lighted up logo on my powerbook was a bit smaller.
BUT the best they can do when you pull something out of the dock is that LAME, graceless Wile. E. Coyote smoke cloud that looks right at home on an early 80's Atari game? Jeez...
Uhh... this was one of the first things I changed when I installed the OS X Public beta.
That is so sexy I can't get over it...but if they change the Applemenu icon to that, it won't look good with the blue pull-down menus...and it will look lind of out-of-place.
But that is so nice. I'd love to work in Apple's icon department someday...

That would be quite extreme.
OR MAYBE HAVE IT EXPLODE.
"Bye-bye, WORD."

Tell us what you really think.

It was one of those cat fights.

How do you take bitmap rather than PDF screenshots?
The PDF that's captured is a bitmapped image. If you want to convert it to another format, simply use Preview or GraphicConverter.
You've come a long way baby!!
