border on selected icons in panther

www.railheaddesign.com mentions today a dislike for the new border effect around selected icons and I completely agree. It just looks awful in my opinion. Way too buttony looking. Effects should probably stay within the bounds of the icon.

Anyone else find this annoying/ugly, or am I being too particular?

(I've accepted the fact that I'm going to have to try to like Finder metal since nothing new was revealed at Macworld Paris)

    looks ugly to me but i'll reserve my judgement until:

    1. We see what it looks like in the fina l incarnation of Panther;

    2. I see it for my self on my very own screen

    Number one... Apple did it and that means that it will always look good

    Number two... Who notices this kind of stuff and why, I mean how will this affect anything you do at all?

    When the subject is on interface, you'll see EVERY little thing. When the subject is on work, then you won't see it.

    Depends on the subject you're on

    Right now it's the interface subject, and that's why it's so interesting.

    If this is one of those conflicts between appearance and usability, I think usability should come out ahead.

    From the screenshot it looks fine, but I'll reserve judgment on both appearance and usability until I've had a chance to work with it. Screen shots don't really do that sort of thing justice.
