How do you find out... It doesn't say in the profiler when I checked at my local Apple store

Mine is identified in the system profiler under "Devices and Volumes" at the "CD-RW/DVD-R" Bus.

I use Toast to duplicate my CD's and it identifies the unit for me. The unit writes at only 24X, I was hoping for a faster unit. I have the 1.8 G5.

Thanks, 24X is faster than my old firewire burner so it's ok by me.

Nah, both the Sony DVD RW DW U10A and Pioneer Pioneer DVR 106D drive mechanisms are "SuperDrives" that burn DVDs as well...

I'm looking for the model number of the "DVD/CD-RW Combo" drive that reads DVDs but can't burn them. This drive is BTO only, so you have to specifically spec. it from the AppleStore.

I burn a lot of CDs, and I can't be bothered to wait on a SuperDrive to burn them when there are other 52x CD-R drives out there. I do however need to make sure that whichever Combo drive I fit is fully supported!

LiteOn do a combo drive that burns CDs at 52x, and reads DVDs as well. I know that previous generations of Power Macs have shipped with LiteOn drives in the past...

On a separate note - doesn't it strike you as strange that the single processor G5s ship with the Sony drive, whilst the dualie gets the Pioneer? I would have thought they would have gone for commonality across the range? Anybody know the differences?
