"10-15% of people are allergic to Nickle??? Is that true? Ididnaknowdat! Well, if it's true, then Nickle plating truly is the perfect finish for macs -- anything that can help to further limit their market, be it price, spec, allergens... I can't see Steve not going for it."

I like the slimmer, white and chrome look, Masker. But...not so tall, eh? Down a-bit...down a bit...more....

I'd like to see a larger cube in white and chrome and transparent bits... (sorry, I just love the cube design...) replace the low end 'power' mac. Bigger cube design and you don't have the previous problem with standard graphic card sizes/components fitting in. I always thought the original cube could have afforded being a little bigger (yes...I know why they tried to make it as small as they did...) Yeah, I'd like to see a modified cube case for the next 'power'Mac. A modified el cap for the top two 'power'macs.

Functionality? El Cap is probably the best tower out there...access...and it does look beautiful. But I think it's time they did something different...something 'wow'...something to get people talking about Apple's 'pro' hardware. Cos the specs aren't worth talking about

yeah I know, but that's stupid .. seriously, do you have so much harddrives, zip drives, jaz Drives, whatever drives, PCI card, Display cards that you need to put in the computer .

Keeps the damn thing from overheating. Everything is nicely spaced.

I was always one of those people who maxed out there Power Tower Pro's.. I have 3 CD drives, a RAIS stup, a 40 GB ide and a 10 Gb PowerBook hard drive all in side my power Tower pro. And every PCI slot is full.. and I use it everyday....

I have always been a six slotter...

Masker, I like the last iteration, and actually don't mind the height at all. Just shrink the handles (at least the top ones)! For a design that linear and statuesque, to have those big bulbous handles just really throws the whole thing off. I think that if you keep that straight vertical line that runs along the sides going through to the handles it'll look really sharp. Right now, it's got a bit of a barbell-look happenin'.

Is she wearing golf shoes? Those look like some Footjoys to me.

I bet the new case is gonna be a metallic enclosure, really industrial looking (titanium case anyone?). Probably FW2 and USB2 ports in the front (at least I hope). I would take a case with a few drive bays. That way I could have a Pioneer A04 DVD-RW, a 48x16x48x CDRW, a DVD-ROM, a Zip, maybe hack for a small LED screen....what else.

The new sketch now has chromed handles with rubberized grips, maybe they are semi-translucent? Also, metal piping down the edges to give a reason for the chrome handles. it's also taller and has two full size drive bays.

At any rate, this will at least give you something to post about until keynote time.

My opinion, I really like this design, and it fits right in with Ive's Kohler look.

    Here it is:

Remember white is the new black.

That's not too bad, good job. IMO tho, I think the flat side contrast with the curvy handles too much however. I don't think that is good design, everything should flow and design elements should be consistent thruought. So, if the sides are flat and squared then the door would be squared as would the handles.

How about doing a new version with more streamlined and straigther lined handles.

    I really like the revision.

Making the Powermac the big brother of the Xserve, would increase the overall weight and cost of materials too much.

    i too like the revision.

not a big fan of chrome tho. tends to look a bit cheesy / plasticky. i really like the crystal look of the handles at present. short of a completely crystal box, i reckon tha EC case is pretty much on it's last legs. i'm pretty sure james has been hard at work re-designing the case. looking forward to it.

You guys are all *so* wrong. Keep at it though, like I said about the PDA rumor when Apple demands it be taken down you know you got it right.

Heh, ooookay its all white and chromey now. White is the new Graphite, but not how you all expect it. Heh. The new G4 will be the most minimal update they can get away with as its an interim/final call for that CPU case design. With Quicksilver they replaced the front and back panels, wow that was impressive engineering.

Its really cramped in there if they add extra optical drive bay and adjust HD bays without changing the cage at all. Maybe thats why the red eBay mobo has that notch down by the PCI slots? (I still got that photo, but all I got are .Mac accounts and it would all get yanked if I posted it  )

    More eye-candy...

This is just a little curve ball for all those people who think the next case will be Xserve inspired. While i like the look of the fron t panel I can't imagine what Apple would do on the sides, so here's a "out-of-the box" idea.

Hurry before Apple demands that it be removed.

Change the blue paneling to chrome and the grey to white and I think you've got a very cool-looking computer, there, which fits in with Apple's new color scheme. Feasibility? Not on your life. Apple wouldn't go for something that lacks the elegance and design intuition of the other models.

I'd like to see El Capitan stay with just minor revisions, like the fan issue and maybe some updated paneling.

And yes, I still think the next "cube," if they ever make one, will be spherical.

    Simply hideous.

I can only see Apple doing one of two things: doing yet another teeny color/texture update to the El Capitan, or going with a completely new revision to the setup and aesthetics of the Power Macintosh tower line. The white-ized El Capitan with the Cinema and speakers/keyboard looks really nice for the former.. which is all I am expecting, because it's all Apple really needs to change in the minor update. The look/scheme.

I don't think that the latter is going to happen until the G5 rolls around, however. But when it does, it will be a departure from anything Apple has ever done before, just like all of Apple's complete redesigns are. It will be more minimalist, more edgy, with clean lines, tasteful LEDs and buttons, and the color scheme will probably be.. less colorful, than the El Capitan both is now and has been in the pas at least.. that's the only direction Apple can go.
