I don't know. I could very easily see something like this from Apple. iPod AV? Not sure if that's what they'll call it, but why not.

I seriously believe that a portable device that would sync with iPhoto (perhaps as well as iTunes), allowing me to carry my entire photo collection with me, would be very cool. Add to that the ability to play MPEG4 videos? Why not. Certainly the disk space of the iPods is getting ridiculously large for JUST music. What else can I put onto that disk? Pictures? Video? Why not?

Sorry, but iPod AV with a built in color screen is the dumbest idea in history. What's the market for this thing? 11 year old boys who want to watch movie trailers on the go? There'd be no legal/compelling content for this thing and even if there was, who'd want to watch video on a tiny screen? It'd be very costly, but not very useful.

an iPod AV with ports to connect to different TVs and Projectors would be a different story all together. Users could create most of their own content with iPhoto and iMovie.

Considering that Nintendo's Gameboy was a huge seller when it came out with a monocolor sceen and highly pixelated graphics you should not underestimate the publics willingness to trade off quality for tiny size and portability.

That said I don't think this sort of device is needed to watch movies. What it is needed for is to store and transport digital photos. I want one so when I travel I don't need to bring along an expensive, fraglie, heavy. notebook computer to store the thousands of photos I take. I think this would be a huge hit with digital photographers since cameras makers just keep increasing the megapixels.

All it needs is simple RCA jacks to be able to use it to show slide shows on any newer TV. Other digital wallet type devices like the Nexvue Vista are okay, but you just know Apple could make something much much greater that would take over this market like the iPod has taken over the portable MP3 player market.

And hey, all Apple has to do is throw in a few good games and maybe they could give the color Gameboy a run for its money!

Or add a lens and let it take photos...after all, if people are statisfied with crappy photos from a cell phone I am sure Apple can do a better job.

Anyway, Apple has given the impression that there will be other digital devices coming out besides the iPod so if not this what?

Sorry, design is already working on this idea along with a companion design to bring back the Newton design in the near future.

Why the color screen? Apple is working on a companion site to iTunes that will enable you to "buy" a downloadable movie for the 'pod - and YES, it will be able to interface with your TV!

    So there.

For everybody who says there is no market for this... just imagine if the next store Apple opens is a video store JUST like iTunes Music Store. Where you could pick one of thousands of videos to DL over high speed to your video player. (which can play the movie on Cinema displays...)

    Whatcha think?

That's great for playing games, but not for watching video. The latter can't get away with four-color sprite graphics, or use interactivity as a hook. (Ditto monochrome PDAs.)

The real application isn't funny. But the potential troubles it could cause are.
