I have to admit, the iWalk was one of the best product hoaxes ever. Who ever had the time to make that prototype, whether they fabbed a real object or used 3D software to composite it in, did a fab-oo job. Of course, one could deduce that they had no life.....

Any chance we could get an automatic ban on any first timers who post anything so painfully out of the loop? I mean, this is Apple ?Insider,? isn't it?

    *sigh*

good for a laugh every now and then, I guess.

There are several features of the iWalk that make me think that it was not a fake. It may have been an internal Apple mock-up or concept video, but not a compete hoax by a uninformed 3rd party, IMHO.

Remember, the iWalk pre-dated the iPod, iMac 2, and Jaguar...

    1) The OS exhibited some trends that we didn't know about until Apple previewed Jaguar (i.e., brushed metal appearance and inkwell). As a former Newton user, I saw the iWalk video expand on Newton functionality (it was not OS X lite).

    2) The chrome Apple logo. It is too coincidental that this design element would appear in a hoax months before the its debut in a real Apple product -- The New iMac.

    3) The dial. This feature also appeared in a different form on the iPod. Again, this is too coincidental for someone to fake without some inside knowledge.

I want to go on record and say that I think the iWalk was something more than a complete hoax.

The ipod came first. that was one of the reasons that it was so obviously fake.

there were many discrepancies in all of the videos. They were very obviously fakes. Movement of the dial video, remember?

    This is so silly.

I must be going senile. I really thought the iWalk was the rumor and the iPod was what Apple released.

There's more evidence of a Loch Ness Monster or Sasquatch than an iWalk.

    Some people just

    won't

    let

    it

    die

iWalk was about 6 months before iPod...

I think it's real too. I've studied the videos at length and there isn't anything solidly wrong with them, and they are low enough resolution to make photoshoping impossible to see.

At the time SpyMac broke iWalk, there was incredible hissing and moaning which seemed mainly due to a new rumour site getting an exclusive over AI/MOSR/etc. The bitching goes on still...

It is interesting seeing iWalk now, 18 months on. It is in the style of the iPod & iMac2 - a style which was not fully developed then - and it is doing things Ink will make possible.

The sad fact is that no Apple PDA will be believed until Steve waves it at us. Too many people are hell bent on proving things fake :/

Maybe you meant to say "6 days". Apple invitated the press for October 23rd, and while most rumor sites said that it was an mp3 player for sure, some claimed it was a PDA with the ability to mp3s - so iWalk was born, and SpyMac delivered lots of fake videos and pics and information.

It's been half the time actually.

AFAIK SpyMac took them down because Apple Legal "forced" them to.
