I am not even going to install iTunes on my Windows XP, because I don't see any point in it, all of my music and the music I have bought are on my Mac.
I don't have a Mac, so this is like Christmas for me.
So iTMS has totally trashed my productivity today. Probably tomorrow as well as I re-rip music like a mad man (I have been using ogg for my music format like the fool that I am). Way to go Apple.
edit: one of my coworkers was also complaining how iTMS has nuked his productivity. Must... fix... bugs...
This announcement dwarfs Panther and probably is even more important than PowerMac G5s. I loaded up Apple a few minutes ago and my roommate thought it was SomethingAwful.com because of the Hell Froze Over.
He's diehard PC too. Not for long. Even he thinks it's cool.
Would he have known or downloaded if it wasn't for being your roommate? I am not saying it isn't good, I am just saying this isn't going to be the same result (ratio wise) as when iTMS was released for Macs and everyone went and downloaded it. Number will hopefully be close, but proportionally I don't think it will be that impressive.

One thing I will say iTunes for PC needs is a way to import the music automatically. I guess search for music on this computer will work well, but when people download new stuff they will want it to automatically be added to their iTunes to stop them from using their programs that download their music.

How about the fact that if they are on the same LAN you can stream the music from one machine to the other? That includes iTMS purchases.
It wasn't slow for me, I downloaded at > 1MB/sec (it is good to be at work). A coworker was having problems downloading so I assume that the site is getting hit pretty hard (which is a great sign for Apple). Apple is probably limiting you to your download rate.
Yes, SBC is horrid. Get another provider if you can.
Fixed it! Dad hooked up the fax machine to the dsl line without a filter, so one of SBC's CO's throttled down our bandwidth to compensate for the added noise on the line. www.apple.com and www.itunes.com scream once again
I've got my PC and PB sharing their respective libraries with each other. Tres cool!
I had to turn on some sharing and add a windows login account (not sure if everything I did was necessary) before I could get iTunes on each computer to see the other library.
That's disgusting that Windows can resize iTunes better than my Mac can. Dammit OSX really pisses me off. Sure it's pretty to look at, but if it can't resize a goddamn window with 768M RAM, then what the hell's the point?
i can't tell you how happy i am this came out. i just switched from mac to pc (need to run GIS applications) and have been whining because there are no good programs for the iPod. There is one called Media Center 9, but it pretty much sucks usability-wise. I was about to drop $40 on it because there was nothing else I could do. I am so thrilled!
As a side note, I really miss the elegance of using OS X. Mac users take it for granted, but OS X seems so transparent compared to windows. Part of it i guess has to do that I haven't learned the shortcut keys yet. Also, windows doesn't distinguish between Window and Program and it is really annoying. I digress.

Not sure, but if you're computers are networked, why not just share the library from Mac to PC (assuming all your MP3s are on your Mac)?

Actually (thanks to the speed of FireWire and or USB 2.0) I have my MP3 collection on both my PC and Mac. The thing is, one is a desktop and one is a notebook - and I'd like to have my MP3 collection with (on the road) as well as on my desktop. So, iTunes for Windows beautifully imported all 3500 MP3s with all the tags in tact, but I guess now I just have to manually re-create all my playlists.
for those complaining about resizing in iTunes being smoother on Windows than on Mac OS X, no worries there: resizing in Windows sucks too, if that's any consolation! And that's on a P4 1.8 Ghz with 1GB of RAM!!
Other than that, iTunes on Windows rocks!!! I see great things in Apple's future.

Outraged? Well, your 1.8GHz P4 system is probably about 3 to 4 times as powerful as your 700MHz G3 iBook, (once you figure in processors, bus, hard drives, etc). Add in a reasonable margin for error and I'd say that the numbers seem about right to me.
On my 800Mz G4 powerbook iTunes usually stays between 4-9% (although it does bounce around a lot from 1.5-16%). I wonder what % it uses on a G5...
Hm.. installation went fine, everything works except for iTMS (actually the browse feature works, but I can't access home page/search page results)... does anyone know if it is dependent on Service Pack 1 for Windows XP in any way?

Well, it turned out to be a Norton Firewall issue, if it's activated it caused that error. No problems here now that I disactivated it temporarily (not that I ever wanted to buy tunes via iTMS on Windows as I do it on the Mac version, but I wanted to figure out why it wasn't working)

every time I try to add my mp3's to a playlist it just crash... but it looks great!

I don't even think there's an easy way to export a playlist from Mac to Mac much less windows.
