To all you people who keep saying Apple should or will introduce a PDA; do you actually plan on buying one, or are you just longing for something to drool at like the Cube?

    Nice pict BTW...

Very cool! No stylus! Why dink around with those annoying pointing devices when that odd bulbous Apple lump-thing between the speakers is obviously the thought receiver!!!

What software did you use for that?

I'm always curious as to what people are using for modeling.

Modeling and rendering done in AliasWavefront Maya. Photoshop was used for the screencomposition

I started out by making 4 straight EP-Curves, then filleted the things together to a single curve. Then I duplicated and translated the curve a couple of times, and finaly lofted them and attached the sufaces. That part took abuut 1 hour since I had some initial problems with the lofting. The speakergrill where made by "projecting curve on surface" and then trimming.

One polyplane was created where I assigned the screenshader. And a simple polysphere was used for the "bulbous Apple lump-thing".

I'd buy one without thinking twice. In fact, I refuse to buy any new PDA just in case .

I would snap one up as long as it has a hard drive AND, most importantly, it can run Palm OS apps.

BTW. Nice job, Minguez! I downloaded Maya LE with the specific plan of doing proto designs with it. I haven't past trying anything more than a doorknob, though.

I, for one, will put down money for an Apple PDA. how much? that depends. As much as 600, i would say, if its really really really cool. But I hope it can still be that cool and powerful and function without a price tag that high. 400-500 would be more reasonable ffor a high functionality PDA from apple

    Found this over on <a href="http://www.powerpage.org/story.lasso?newsID=9603"; target="_blank">O'Gradys Powerpage</a>

They have a link to a Danish site with photos and video supposedly of OS X running on a Palm IIIc.

If Apple were to introduce a PDA tomorrow, I'd pre-order the sucker. I've got a Visor Prism and I don't get to use it much because relatives keep borrowing it to play games! Plus, I would like something more powerful, that interfaces well with my Mac (ruling out a PocketPC device, even with PocketMac).

So yes, an "iPad" would get my money.

    Hi Minguez,

I would like to show your iPad on our website: <a href="http://www.macguardians.de"; target="_blank">www.macguardians.de</a>

Would you give the permission to publish the pic with the story of how you designed it? I can set a link to a site or an email address if you want that.

If it has an integrated dual-band mobile phone 900/1800 that you can use without headset I´d buy it right away!!! (700,- Euro would be o.k.)

    Looking at the first picture at <a href="http://home.no.net/macosx/"; target="_blank">http://home.no.net/macosx/</a>;

you notice that Mac OS X is in 256 color-mode which would be acurate to the power behind the Palm IIIc. The texture of the dock and clarity there of would also compliment the IIIc's ability. But fast forward to the second picture and you'll notice the jpg it'self is in 256 color itself. The Palm IIIc's logo is green-o'd; something that happens when rendering non-256 gray or white colors into the 8-bit picture encoding. Since the IIIc's logo wasn't that color to begin with, I have to discredit this photo as real.

For the believers: it is interesting to note that the pixel size is correct on the LCD screen, however the IIIc uses the same dot pitch as some powerbooks. It still holds true that OS X was in 256 color mode, as it uses a dithering technique for matching 8-bit colors with shading that is unlike the standard photoshop 256 color encoding.

so I'd give it 3 out of 5 walloos for accuracy and attention to detail for an extremely well-done fake. Again the only problem is the suspicious 256-color dehanced photo.

    I like making up words.

If one does come out, count me in to buy one. It may be awhile before I could afford it, but I WOULD get one.
