Weird text voodoo in Panther

Text renders weirdly in Panther, especially Safari 1.1. Sometimes, the insertion point doesn't match up with the text that is being typed. Like, after typing for a while in a text field, there would be a large gap between the insertion point and a letter that was just typed.

Weird.

As I recall, that *was* a bug in the old builds.

I will say no more, but insinuate much.

Today I encountered this bug too. For me it was in Safari after working heavily all day. It impacted all open Safari windows, but not other applications. I quit Safari and started it again and the problem was resolved.

I've had this problem on occasion too. There are some weird graphical things going on in Panther. Nothing too annoying, but anyway...

sorry, but i had this just happen to me in Mail.app.

i place the cursor at one point, begin typing, type a few characters, then the pointer goes to the bottom of the page.

something is wrong in panther.

It's not just Panther. I've seen it in Safari 1.0 on 10.2.8. *Rarely*, but it's there.

I've seen this too, but only after diddling with FontBook. I wonder if doing so borks test services for apps that are open when fonts are activated/deactived. Now I quit and restart all my apps after modifying my active fonts and I haven't seen the problem since.

I think Fawkes is correct. I was in FontBook resolving duplicates. When I was done, Safari started showing text on top of each other on some web sites.

Turned off Safari, (got the beachball). Restarted Safari and everything is back to normal.
