I'm tired of wrestling with it to get my fonts to display correctly in Flash, etc.

I want it gone.

I'll manage my fonts manually until Suitcase is updated!

Cinders, are you referring to OS-x Panther ?

When you say your fonts wont display correctly, what do you actually mean ? What type of fonts ?

Any specific font types etc or all in general ?

Also what "Flash" are you refering to ?

You can just delete it, right?

My copy of Univers does not display correctly in FontBook for Panther.

This is a clean install off of my retail CDs.

I have re-installed this font from repeatedly with the same effect.

I have even tried other foundries' version of Univers

This font worked fine in OS9 and in Jaguar.

The weird thing is only Normal and Bold are screwed up

(the letters are like such: ÅÉÎØÎ etc)

And I am talking about Flash MX

I am getting massive display problems in flash it self (blown out distorted triangle shapes instead of spaces which disappear when i export the SWF)

in addition to display problems, Univers doesn't display OR export correctly.

I would rather manage my fonts myself.

Thing is, I'm not sure deleting FontBook would solve it.

Apple changed the way fonts are displayed, seperately from Font Book.

FontBook is just an organization tool, from what I can tell.

So maybe I answered my own question.

    I can'tf fix this.

Disabling FontBook is like saying you want to disable TextEdit or iTunes. If you don't want to use it, don't open it. Trash it if you want.

FontBook doesn't have any magic daemons that run in the background keeping things in check. It is simply an app that lets you organize your fonts without manually moving them yourself. It just moves fonts between the various Library/Font folders. That's all.

The realization you made near the end of your last post is spot-on correct.

It sounds to me that you even the original is a bad font. Maybe previous OS's have been more lenient in handling damaged fonts? I don't really know. If so, I think there's a tool out there that can repair fonts. I seem to recall there being one for Classic Mac OS, but I can't remember its name...

My first thought was whether or not you are dealing with post-script type fonts or true type.? But I don't know which fonts in particular you are talking about, or if it is a sub set as used in another program.

Brad sounds like he's onto to something, in which case you might want to check out " Font doctor " as a demo download.

    Hope this link works.
