    I was fortunate to miss scadfly season in North Bay this summer. For a few weeks in June?July, you can hardly step outside without inhaling one. Their lives are very short, so millions of dead flies end up in piles downtown by the lakefront. It's a lovely smell...



    The most impressive bug I've seen in Canada was Lethocerus americanus, more commonly called the Giant Toe Biter. I trapped one in a margarine tub when I was about 10 years old and kept it alive for a few days. There are some good pictures a bit down on this page.

    i talked to an entomologist today about that white, fuzzy mouse looking bug.



    he said it's a wooly alder aphid.
