Maybe Apple got 'em for free and just overcharged us....
The 1 GHz MPC7455 was about $300 in quantities of 10,000 when released. At the time Intel had a 1.9 GHz P4 for $241 per 1000 units. AMDs were even cheaper.
The price-gap between Motorola G4s and Intel/AMD pricing has only increased since. You can bet Apple was breathing a huge sigh of relief when IBM came to the rescue.
