whoami> poor from the wedding? i sympathize....but instead of asking for lame-shit on the wedding-registry (coffee-makers, toaster, china, etc), put down a G4-Ti/iBook on the list You would be pleasently surprised if a bunch of your buddies chipped in for it!
If there's a G4 iBook it'll probably have a new case--as least cosmetically.
They would do so to create a differentiation betwixt the iBook/G3 and the iBook/G4: unlikely that colour alone would suffice [as was sort-of the case with G3/Tower->G4/Tower].
the only way there will be a ghz powerbook is if the powermacs get updated and i highly doubt it
i expect:
imac 17", etc. (price drops!?)
ipod (something or other)
jaguar
.mac
some new device (hopefully)
kill imac G3
i think there is a chance that the imac will get booted up to 1 ghz tomorrow, even though that would interfere with the powermacs for a month, apple's gotta show something tomorrow. if the imacs don't get any faster, then that would be very dissappointing! it's the least they could do!
new powermacs mid-august
along with the powermacs could come powerbooks and ibooks slightly updated...once the powermacs get past a ghz, then that will give the other products some breathing room
I am not sure if he will release a G4 iBook I can't say I would be the happiest person if he did considering I just paid over 2000$ on my current iBook, and that was just about a month or so ago. If it happens I guess I wish I would have waited but I don't see it happening.
Someone above mentioned that the Titanium PowerBook G4's actual metal structure/skin dissipates heat away from the CPU. However, the Titanium G4, as much as people would like to think, is not comprised of a metal case -- it is actually a polycarbonate case similar to the iBook and past powerbooks, but Johnathan Ive encased this in an extremely thin metal over-layering -- like a gold plate, but using titanium.
So, thoretically, it's quite possible for Apple to put a G4 in the iBook with a few changes on the motherboard and perhaps a small fan. (The iBook's case is thicker than the Ti's anyhow)

Wally, I'm with you on this one.... And maybe they will display it with a 23" Cinema as the video editing nexus of the future. I can barely master (though I love) iPhoto-- digital video is WAY beyond what I want to mess with...

Why do you think there'll be new Powerbooks?
How cool would THAT be?!
Apple.com seriously needs a wedding registry.

Very cool.

This has generally been the case so far:
G3/iMac -> G4/iMac: new case
G3/PowerBook -> G4/PowerBook: new case

Maybe it will be graphite, or key lime!

Key Lime was great!

$2000 for an ibook??

I'm sure the $2000 wasn't just on the iBook itself.

As far as I remember, the Ti case itself dissipates heat. I don't know if and how that would work with a plastic case.
But what the hell do I know?

Yeah, by melting whatever it is sitting on
