Yeah, though it would be cool if they shipped as they said - 30 days after announcement. Could mean they can be sticked into the new PowerMacs (if there will be any). If the performance is as they say I'd be glad to pay 400 for it...

The RADEON9700 is AWESOME. not just better than GF4Ti4600, it's up to 4 times faster.
Sources: Anandtech.com, hardocp, tomshardware.
When 4xFSAA and 128-tap anisotropy was used, the R9700 got approximately 10000 3D2001SEmarks, where the GF4Ti4600 got only 2500 (and only 64-tap anisotropy since it doesn't support more).
The glory continues in all other benchmarks too, not by such a huge "margin" ( ), but as long as the processor (a Pentium4 2,4Ghz had huge problems) could feed the card fast enough with data, it always beat the GF4Ti4600, which looked pathetic by comparision.
and this is with alpha/beta/dev-drivers and not 100% finished hardware...
In short: the performance is as they say, and you'll be glad to shell out your $400. I will too
thats what i tend to think... jobs' didn't want the new PM's to take the spot light away from what was an impressive keynote.

I believed that the keynote was a good one, with iTunes, 17" iMac, iPod, Jaguar and iCal.
But, I believe that if a new Power Mac was ready it would have been announed. Pros (used to) respect MacWorlds, and pro mags used to have like 10 pages of MacWorld coverage each MacWorld.
MacWorlds are going to be used less and less for the prosumer hardware and more and more to help push developer's new software and initiatives, new initiatives by Apple and new consumer products.

1) It probably wasn't ready
2) Apple needs to get rid of its current inventory.
Also, things converge in August...Jaguar, Radeon 9700, etc...

Doode, if that P4 had problems to feed the card, what mac you think won't have? Or better, what Mac are you expecting and buying? Won in the lottery?
PB.

The new Power8 ProMac Unix Workstations, of course.
