If this is indeed it, the metal plates correspond to Apple's new metallic logo.

Not to mention that Stevie isn't going to be to happy about this.

Hell, this is a hugh leak. It's a shame we don't have any details to go with it though.

thats wierd, where are the ram slots?, why does the fan on the pulldown side have no corresponding hole in the outside view?. Why is the processor mounted diagonally? It says ©2001 on the mainboard, What is that huge PCI card that looks like it contains huge banks of chips all over the side we cant see? What are the 4 closed slots on the fron of the machine? And what is the point of that metal plate?

    Looks abit wierd too.

Well if it is really the new case I?ll be bitterly disappointed... when will we see a REAL BRAND NEW design????

Personally I?m tired of the elcapitan case.

I thought that apple could be more creative...

interesting and baffling at the same time...

the board looks very similar to the "red board" that was on eBay a while ago.

if i remmeber that board right, the ram slots are hidden in the view by the AGP card.

the diagonal chip is not the processor. the processor daughtercard plugs into the white connector near the top, i think.

i would assume this is an unfinished testing unit. that may explain the large unidentified card... some type of diagnostic card.

as for the case... hopefully it's unfinished. any guess as to what those four notches on the front are? they seem kind of superfluous for an apple design.

I think the four "slots" are ports. 2x USB 2x Firewire.

    But Where's the CD-Rom? Isn't that Metal-thing too small for a CD-Rom? Looks like HD-Dreivebays to me.

And the 2001 Copyright is irritating me too.

I think it will be hard to improve on the Elcapitan

MarcUK, if you look at the current cases, you'll see that a huge 120 mm fan blows straight into the side panel.

That board reminds me a lot of the red board on eBay. The diagonal cuts, the inverted positioning of the PCI slots....the dual IDE connectors. Looks like there's a different cage design for the drives too.

This is not your father's El Capitan. It's certainly different on the inside, which is what matters in the end.

pesi, that diagonal chip is the processor. Looks like any other Motorola MPC745x.

Looks like the top photo is stretched a bit. I don't think it's that tall/skinny.

Not that it matters too much but that is about the ugliest mac I have ever seen  It also looks taller.

Meanwhile why can't they take a good overhead shot of the top of the board. What's with the oblique angles <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

The more I look at it the more I agree that it looks weird. Like the fan placement! Not to mention that one card that has all the chips on it. Perhaps we are looking at an old proto-type design and nothing that's planned to be released.

I think only time will tell on this one, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is that we'll see for the next release.

Somebody in Cupertino is going to be fired.

Nevertheless, it's white. I guess we should've expected that.

Also, let's hope both drive bays are full-sized.

Finally, what are the four ports along the bottom? I hope those are FW and USB.

    Looks good to me.

Can anyone figure out from the pics if the damn thing is a 'true DDR' box?

I spoke to the guy in charge of hardware engineering a couple of years back at WWDC. He mentioned that they often have heaps and heaps of prototype designs that they send out as testing units.

So I am *hoping* that this is one of those prototypes. Because it is damn ugly and damn strange.

Sorry, this made no sense. It should read:

but I wouldn't be surprised if this is NOT what we'll see released next.

okay... i stand corrected on the processor. but why solder it to the board? does this peg what we see as a development box and not finished product?

and with the placement of the drive bays... wouldn't they get in the way of the internals when the door is shut?

i know somebody here has a pic of the "red board" anyone care to post? (i don't feel like rummaging through old threads)

The CPU's not on the board, it's on a riser.

I don't see any problems with the drive bays. The connector on the right looks like it's for the optical drive.

Its not soldererd to the main board. If you look at the middle photo, its a close up of the daughterboard in the bottom photo, (look at the chip positions and the mounting holes), which is the same as current pmacs.

ah... okay, i see it now. the two kind of blend together in the bottom photo.

So the PCI/AGP are at the top? Well that's....well, I was going to say 'messed up', but I guess it's no more arbitrary than being at the bottom.....

Actually, now that I see the red board, I'm confused again. Something seems backward, but I can't figure out if it's my head, or the mainboard.
