New Names for PowerMacs?

Pure speculation here, but does anyone think that Apple will make a convention out of the XServe name, and rebrand the PowerMac as the XMac?

Sounds good to me. I doubt it but sure I'll take an xMac.

it has to be the Scotty

so that we can regularly shout (all together now)

"Damnit Scotty, I need more power!"

I mean why call the xServe xServe? Why not PowerServe? the "X" in the name indicates the platform to me, and the plaform is quickly becoming X. So maybe we'll see the XMac and soon the XBook, when the new dual processor powerbooks come to light.

    'PriceyMac'.

    er...

    'Powercrap'.

    'Pro'(honest)Mac.'

    "$$$$Mac"

    "Fist load of Dollars Mac"

    er...

    "G4*4=Dual Athlon Mac"

    "powerMac"

"Cyclops" (half the 'processing' power of competitive systems costing half as much...and Apple RDF zealots can't spot this thus one eye wide firmly shut...)

'OldMac' (Your trusty 'old tech' Tech' buddy TM ting!)

'CycleMac' ( or 'Pedal Power Mac' due to lengthy and protracted 9 month product refreshes...)

    'MB (Moore Buster) G4' (...explain?)

    Or my favourite...

    'POWERMAC G5'.

i highly doubt they will change the name of their current line of products. that be like SJ saying "we've done this Macintosh thing long enough, lets move onto the next apple on the list. how about GRANNY SMITH!!"

i think they named it Xserve cause they needed a name and it sounds better than Iserve

It's interesting how our dissatisfaction has escalated regarding the innards of the pro line. I'm just as pessimistic as the next knothead on this board nowadays.

When the company finally does release updated pro machines they may indeed go for a branding change on the units just to distance them from the slow-to-change line that has ruled for the past three years.

I can't see them getting the little letter "i" prefixes, nor does the letter "x" have the market power it did about two years ago (the "X Generation" is SO last century's news).

A competent name, perhaps even a CODE name might become the official moniker. Look at JAGUAR. It was a code name that became a marketing tool, going so far as to become a pattern on the website and on the CD with the operating system onboard.

Consider the possibility that the next MAJOR rev might get a code name........

    Just consider.

Maybe a new name when the G5 is here, but "Powermac" has worked for so long, that I see Apple holding on to it because of the brand recognition. Just like they have with "iMac".

So I'm thinking, any change will be along the lines of, "Powermac G5". Not original, but then companies are rarely original with names...once they've established brand recognition, they like to keep it, unless they want people to forget something about the old product. But Powermacs have a good reputation so I see their names remaining.

How about: "I wish Intel headquarters would explode and the R&D for their Q4 release of the P4 at 3Ghz would go up in flames - Mac" ??

    Sorry <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" /> just a little bitter....

Well, if Moto drops the ball again and the G5 is an underpowered dog or delayed, perhaps Apple should call it the BOHICA Mac - Bend Over Here It Comes Again, Mac.

But, to think up names I think would actually make sense: PowerMacX G5, PowerMac G5X, POWERMac G5 (if IBM supplied POWER.....)
