I think its pretty unlikely that the 17"iMac will get a bump soon. Obviously a lot depends on the next PM upgrade. If the upgrade is decent you may see a 133 bus and 64mb on the video card but not much more. I think $2000 is the magic price point not too exceed on the iMac.
Actually, I think the iMacs, including the 17" *could* get small updates next month, before anybody even receives a 17" model.

Has that ever happened? I don't know...I'm asking. Has Apple announced/unveiled hardware at particular specs, places it at their online store, all the major resellers, takes orders, etc. and then - out of the blue - bump up the specs, just for the goodness/humanity of it?
Not that I can recall. Certainly not within the iEra (1998-present).
I doubt this very seriously. I'd be very surprised. If they knew they were going to get bumped "next month" (August), couldn't Steve have just included that as part of the keynote?
"In addition to the 17" screen, new video card, etc., we're bumping them to 900MHz..." or whatever.
I think they'll get bumped up (the standard iMac-esque 100MHz) in late fall, in time for the holiday shopping frenzy.
IMO they should have bumped the bus to 133 on the 17" and kept the proc @ 800, just like the current low end PM... but of course, they didnt oh well... im still gettin one...
Yes, I'm more inclined to assume this will be the case. The only problem with this is that the current iMacs will be very long in tooth for pretty much the entire back-to-school season.
That would be bad.
That's why I think Apple could-maybe-possibly do a 'pre-bump' to the 17 incher and a bump to the other models when the new Power Macs are released.
It's very obvious Apple is failing to seel Power Macs right now. Nicely spec'd iMacs across the board announced at MWNY would have slowed Power Mac sales even more...
Sorry to say this, but this board has hit a monumentally new low, when people are speculating about whether speed bumps are imminent for products that are not even available yet!
The only time i remember apple bumping the specs of a product between anouncing it and shipping it is the original bondi blue iMac. Everyone complained about the modem being 33.6 so they swapped in a 56k just before shipping.

the board? try apple... if they use decent hardware to begin with, we wouldnt be having these silly discussions.... people wouldnt be worried about buying a computer only to ahve it replaced with something 10X better the next week...
stupid apple... just be competetive and you will sell more product!!

any idea if there is an upgrade for the new 17" imac within the next few months?

you've got to be kidding. they aren't even shipping the current ones yet.
ting5
remember: 15" tft imac january(?) -> 17" imac july...
no g5 imac within the next months...?

Bwahahahaha!!!!
Maybe when the Towers are bumped, the iMacs will get a bump as well? No other changes, just a speed bump. It would be a good way to boost sales.
Opinions....

Next month, when Apple releases the new Power Macs, SOMEONE here will go "so when will they be updated? I'm looking to buy one, but..."

Yeah, but they need a speed boost.

Maybe October or so?
