iTunes 4.2

Posted:
in iPod + iTunes + AppleTV edited January 2014
iTunes 4.2 is now available from Apple's website. Not yet updated in the KBase.

Anyway, downloaded it, haven't noticed any differences except perhaps the "iTunes Hot Tips" link under the Application menu. I *think* that's new.

Seems like they just wanted to co-ordinate the OS X and Windows versions together into a single version number, unless there's some changes under the hood that's not immediately apparent.

    Usual iTunes download page:

I imagine it will appear in Software Update any minute now as well.

Meanwhile, MR has already got the scoop on some of the minor changes:

You can double-click on the Music Store link in the iTunes sidebar to open iTMS in new window. Guess people requested that. Whoo-hoo.

This update is necessary for the just announced AOL availability of iTunes.

Is it just me, or is that huge logo of the AOL guy holding and iPod on Apple's front page look really poorly and cheaply done?

    I wonder.

Also does it finally stop randomly skipping, and beachballing?

I just downloaded it for windows, and it really brings a much needed "Mac look" to my PC. It's a really great player. Great jorb! (Brad, you know what I'm talkin about!)

Ok, how the crap do you get rid of the songs blending into each other when they're almost done?

    The beachballing seems fixed.

psgamer: go to the preferences and in the effects section, uncheck the "crossfade" option.

Is there any way to make an "RCA LYRA" mp3 player work with iTunes, or is it just made for an iPod?

just plug it in... it should show up in the sidebar... the only thing is that it will probably only work with MP3s and possibly unprotected AAC files... but i doubt it...

It won't work. iTunes does work with USB mp3 devices, but not that one:

That's the first result on google for lyra + itunes and it has some handy hints.
