Hello,

being a long time AI reader this is my first post here.

I haven't found any comments about this new Motorala chip here on the board, so I thought, why not post it?

Maybe this one will make it to the new Macs?

Cheers,

Arndt

    What's so exciting about that?

    I don't see it going into 'power'Macs.

Neither do I. I think this chip is designed only for the embedded market which is no big surprise since this is what Motorola is focusing on (which isn't necessarily bad looking from a non-Apple perspective). However, until Apple can find a whole new chip, this could mean that some of this new technology could be used to provide a short term solution for Apple.

Ok, maybe not "exciting", but perhaps it shows some parallels to what we might see in a few days. Especially with the integration of the DDR controller, RapidIO, OCeaN.

    Hmm, can't wait

Glad you joined and posted , just a note, though. The MPC8560 has been mentioned and discussed

    <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002138"; target="_blank">here</a>

    <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002148"; target="_blank">here</a>

    and<a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002195"; target="_blank">here</a>

Relevance to Apple, who knows, but it does show Motorola is making some progress in Rapid I/O, Ocean Switched web etc.

edit: I really need to learn how to spell

    Hi Rickag,

ups, so this isn't such a big news at all. I must have missed a thread or two :-)

I have to investigate harder in the future.

    Cheers,

I think it is big news, just my opinion. I'm hoping that it is an early indication that Motorola is making significant progress with the tech being implemented in the MPC85XX series. This includes manufactuing using HiP7(re: the 0.13µ process) that many believe will be used on the next G4.
